techno Posted October 5, 2009 Posted October 5, 2009 Jorge Lorenzo - Position: 1stTime: 45'35.522"What a day! I'm so happy to win here again in the same track where I won my first MotoGP race last year. I worked so hard in the break on my fitness with my father and maybe that's given me a little bit of extra speed, I certainly felt so strong this weekend and it is great to win like this after being top in every session as well. I got a good start and it took me just a couple of corners to get past Dani and take the lead, but I honestly didn't expect to be unchallenged from then on or to finish with such a big gap. This is a good track for me but I am fast more or less everywhere now. The championship is closer now; it's still not easy but we have nothing to lose! I'm proud that we have won the Team Title and I want to say thanks and congratulations to everyone. I liked my leathers and helmet a lot this weekend and I wanted to celebrate Neil Armstong and his landing on the moon so this is why I made this 'moonwalk show' after the race!" Valentino Rossi Valentino Rossi - Position: 4thTime: +23.428"It was a very difficult race for me. I was never able to be fast because I did not have enough grip in the rear and our tyre did not work well, but I think it was more a problem of setting. After a few laps I was in great difficulties and I immediately understood that this was not going to be "our" race. Throughout the practice sessions I had some problems but I thought that today I would be able to at least stay with Stoner and Pedrosa, but they made another step forward for the race and then there was no chance for me. On Friday I was three tenths off the pace and unfortunately this stayed the same all weekend and in the race today. Here in Estoril we struggled last year as well, so it might be that, with our setting, the rear tyre gets very hot and this causes a lack of grip. It is a pity that I am off the podium, but we have three more races and they are three great tracks. We must think race by race and we must work to understand what the problem was today in order to make sure that we fix it in time for Phillip Island". From yamaha racing! Quote
Netmeister Posted October 5, 2009 Posted October 5, 2009 It's a big ask of Lorenzo to win the championship. Yes it's a possible, but not so probable.I think Rossi will be too close to Lorenzo in the last 3 races so Rossi would need to crash out which he doesn't do very often. Only 2 I can think of this year is when he dropped it in the rain at Donny and that strange phenomenon at Indy. Neither through carelessness like most.I'd like to see gorgeous george take it though! techno Posted October 5, 2009 Author Posted October 5, 2009 Err how many rounds ago did Rossi have a 50 point lead and now theres stoner back to take points off him, it is a big ask still cos you cannot count out Rossi winning another race but not that improbable!Rossi would like to win the title before valencia! Netmeister Posted October 5, 2009 Posted October 5, 2009 Stoner could also take points off Lorenzo, it works both ways. Yes he did have a 50 point lead but he had a very strange off that halved it in one race. Rossi will be too close to Lorenzo in all three races for him to make significant points up UNLESS Rossi gets bike problems or falls off.Beat Rossi 3 races in a row? I think thats a big ask.Just my opinion sonny Jim. Quote
awwwnuts Posted October 5, 2009 Posted October 5, 2009 How bad as Moto GP become, that we are only talking of 3 riders winning races Quote
fullscreenaging Posted October 5, 2009 Posted October 5, 2009 Yeah, Lorenzo HAS (well, doesn't have to, but it's gonna help) to win every race left now to take the title. Possible, but unlikely with Stoner back and Pedrosa getting it together finally. All I know is that Stoner is defo gonna stick a spanner in the works ( might even try and help Lorenzo take the title out of spite )They all want to win every race and I think it's going to be a cracking last 3 races. It's been the best GP racing for a few years now. I know there have been some boring races, but the championship overall has been cracking. This year has also prduced the one of the best GP races ever imo.I still want Rossi to win the title, but would be good for Lorenzo to take it. Quote
Guest akey Posted October 5, 2009 Posted October 5, 2009 its not bad, there are 4 top riders all able to win any race, with another 3 or 4 who can take advantage of other issues. Its the first time this season that the burgess sat night gamble (that now infamous little tweek) that has gone wrong so I dont think we can read to much into it. Rossi again showed the maturity of a multi world champ but understanding that this was not a race to win because of a setting issue so took as many points as he could. there are at least 2 of the top 4 who would have pushed on and probably crashed losing 25 points instead of 7. 18 points and 3 races remaining you gotta say its rossi's to lose, but either way lets hope the races are more interesting than that one.Mind you the 125s had me screaming at the TV Quote
techno Posted October 5, 2009 Author Posted October 5, 2009 I think what threw a spanner in the works was the fact that it was foggy and cold for morning warm up and burgess rossi didnt have the opprtunity to try any changes, rossi knew on sat he had rear grip issues!!Oh and sonny jim says lorenzo doesnt have to beat rossi in all three races One dnf culd give either of them the title! awwwnuts Posted October 6, 2009 Posted October 6, 2009 Oh and sonny jim says lorenzo doesnt have to beat rossi in all three races One dnf culd give either of them the title! Seem to remember Rossi having a little problem when Hayden won the title at the last race of the 2006 championship. Rossi started the race with an 8 point lead. So its far from a done deal. Quote
Guest nastro azzurro Posted October 10, 2009 Posted October 10, 2009 Could go either way........ Lorenzo is by far the best & most consistent team-mate Rossi has ever had. He has put Rossi under pressure to the point where he is making unforced errors. (Indianapolis) Quote
