Guest Posted November 2, 2009 Share Posted November 2, 2009 depends on the knocking noise.. pinking/knocking - preignition, faulty ignition or excessive carbon build upwhistling/wheezing - leaking manifold(exhaust) leaking vaccum hose, or leaking cylindertapping/rattling,- worn valve gear or camshaft, or ancillary part water pump, alternator..knocking/thumping - worn big end bearing, regular heavy knocking less under load.rumbling/knockin worn main bearing worsening under load..piston slap - worse when cold.
