adam16 Posted September 12, 2010 Posted September 12, 2010 hi guys, i know ive posted another post about mod2 but i thought id start a dif thread for this point. Ive been reading through other peoples posts about mod2 fails, and a couple was because they wernt doing the right speed, albeit a far reason to fail i suppose.but this got me thinking, my bike does 50mph on average at the best of times, does this mean that i could fail on a 60mp road, for being to slow??!?!cheers Quote
TeamMCS Posted September 12, 2010 Posted September 12, 2010 hmm, no you can't fail. Officially your bike needs to be able to achieve 60mph to be a valid a2 standard. I'd double check that. Quote

Bertie Posted September 12, 2010 Posted September 12, 2010 its my understanding, that as long as you make it clear you are aware of the speed limit, you dont have to go all the way up to it if you dont think it is safe to or you are unable to. when i did my mod 2 it was wet, but when a road went from 30 up to 60, i made sure i went faster than 30 (when it was safe) Quote
argentum40 Posted September 13, 2010 Posted September 13, 2010 its a good point actually as when i did my CBT i was on a YBR 125 and had to thrash it to get it up to 40 ina strong headwind.. i doubt it would have gotten to 60 if i had nailed it all day long... if you do your test on a 50cc scoot theres no way it will get anywhere near 60 Quote
Juggler Posted September 14, 2010 Posted September 14, 2010 It's a speed limit, not a target as my old instructor kept telling me. I'm not qualified to say but I doubt that it would prove a problem. LGVs and caravans go slower. Quote
Ingah Posted September 14, 2010 Posted September 14, 2010 its a good point actually as when i did my CBT i was on a YBR 125 and had to thrash it to get it up to 40 ina strong headwind.. i doubt it would have gotten to 60 if i had nailed it all day long... if you do your test on a 50cc scoot theres no way it will get anywhere near 60 You can't do your test on a 50.Source, DVLA:"The practical test must be taken on a bike of between 75 cc and 125 cc. There are two types of full motorcycle licence: * a light motorcycle licence (A1), which restricts riders to any bike up to 125 cc and a power output of 11 kW * a standard motorcycle licence (A), is obtained if the practical test is taken on a bike of over 120 cc but not more than 125 cc and capable of at least 100 kilometres per hour (km/h per hour)..After passing the standard motorcycle practical test, you will be restricted for two years to riding a bike of up to 25 kW and a power/weight ratio not exceeding 0.16 kW/kg. After this you may ride any size of bike."Just to clarify though, this is in theory - i.e. they're looking more at approved models of bike as ultimately a fatty on an unhealthy bike won't be able to do 100km/h. The unfair bit is in mod 1 when they demand acceleration for the swerve test. You're far more likely to be done for not making progress doing the DAS as those bikes are more than capable of the speed limit. Basically, i wouldn't worry, just twist the throttle to maximum, make it uber-obvious/exaggerated if you think it will help! Quote
adam16 Posted September 14, 2010 Author Posted September 14, 2010 phewww! thats a weight off my shoulders! its a 125cc suzuki L reg bike, so shes abit old bless her but overall a good little bike to do my tests on.thanks guys! Quote

Decor58 Posted September 14, 2010 Posted September 14, 2010 I failed my bike test for going too slow, thought it was a load of bollacks myself as one time the guy mentioned I had cars in front and the other I was going up hill and the bike wouldn't go much faster! Quote
adam16 Posted September 14, 2010 Author Posted September 14, 2010 ye but that werrnt on a 125cc was it? Quote
Decor58 Posted September 14, 2010 Posted September 14, 2010 Yup it was a honda 125, can't remember the model.Personally I think it was the guy making crap up/being really petty to keep to his pass rate down.My instructor said it as a stupid reason. Quote
adam16 Posted September 14, 2010 Author Posted September 14, 2010 where did you take it? not oxford i hope! Quote
Decor58 Posted September 14, 2010 Posted September 14, 2010 Sutton-on-trent.To be fair I think I was just unlucky in not quite going fast enough for a mardy examiner.Just do your best and as long as you don't go rediculously slow you should be fine. Quote
