mackemforever Posted January 7, 2011 Posted January 7, 2011 Got a fairly simple question for you guys.Could somebody please recommend me the following as I'm a bit clueless on the matter:1) A good, but decent value, alarmed disc lock. I would prefer an alarmed one as my SV doesn't have any alarms and so I would like to have some form of alarm on it as it may put off an amateur thief.2) A good, but decent value, back protector. I don't mind if its one that is completely seperate to your jacket or if its one that fits into the jacket. All I ask is that its decent value, will do the job in a crash, and isn't really uncomfortable or makes you sweat hideously! Thanks very much. Quote
Guest Posted January 7, 2011 Posted January 7, 2011 You can get a simple alarmed disklock off ebay for less than £20. As far as back protectors go, i'm not too sure, but most likely the ones you'll find will be seperate to the jacket, and as such, you'll become lazy and stop putting it on Quote

TeamMCS Posted January 8, 2011 Posted January 8, 2011 Just bought a Xena XX-15. Seems nice, bloody loud. Xena £20 jobby off ebay bloody rusted up! Leave that!Back protector, get the forcefield L2 (~70 quid) excellent imo (not 'tested' tho) Quote
Imanupstart Posted January 8, 2011 Posted January 8, 2011 Another vote for Xenna, decent construction, nice and solid and loud. I have an oxford boss as well but like most oxford products its a p.o.s Quote

bullet5 Posted January 8, 2011 Posted January 8, 2011 Disk locks are disk locks, the main advantage is as a visual deterant. Most are still easily breakable, or bipassable. Just go cheap and cheerful in my opinion. To get any decrease in insurance costs it'd need to be thatcham approved, of which there is only one or two alarmed units and they retail for more than £60. If your wanting an alarmed unit have a lookie here. I've got two disk locks, one being a Vishas VD1 (no alarm, but weighs 1.1kg and it's very chucky/feels well built (on most insurance websites too)) and one of those off the top of the alarmed list. Decent loudness, hurt ears when they're not covered up, for example with a lid on your head If you buy a silver disk lock, then i'd advise you look at getting a 'bungee'/reminder coil cable thing, so theives can see it's got it on and not miss it when they scan over your bike, and so YOU don't forget to take it off.
