I've got the Forcefield seperate protector, it's very comfy to wear as when it gets warm it moulds to the contours of your body. The drawback is that it is something extra to wear, or carry around with you on a hot sunny day off the bike, where as the insert would always be in your jacket, but I suspect it would not give as much protection?

for the best protection possible, a separate back protector will be best.

i've just recently (last week) bought a forcefield pro sub 4, and its very comfortable, and provides a lot of protection.

only thing i would say if you go with a separate back protector, is to try them on in the shop before you buy, as some of them are quite thick and might not fit under your one piece.
