martlewis Posted March 3, 2011 Posted March 3, 2011 Thinking about putting heated grips on a YBR-125. Anyone done this? Can the battery take it? Quote
sparkeh9 Posted March 3, 2011 Posted March 3, 2011 I cant imagine why not, but it depends on the output of the battery, the power consumption of the grips and how much power a 125 alternator generates to charge the battery. Quote
Guest Posted March 3, 2011 Posted March 3, 2011 Yes it should be fine. To help the battery you could always connect it up to a trickle charger. Quote
spafe2302 Posted March 3, 2011 Posted March 3, 2011 Make sure you wire it up to the ignition so it cant be left on, otherwise it will deffo drain the battery, mighty inconvienant whan that happens (ie right when you dont need it to lol) Quote
Guest Posted March 3, 2011 Posted March 3, 2011 There are now a product by oxford which are specifically designed for 50-250cc bikes, called Oxford Hot Grips Lite i think - try eBay. They are below £50. Quote
Guest Posted March 3, 2011 Posted March 3, 2011 Yeah just be careful them battery's are rather small . Quote
freetime101 Posted March 4, 2011 Posted March 4, 2011 Got the standard oxford grips on mine, seemed alright but it did develop a habit of conking out at junctions...I would look into the lite gripsSent from my MB525 using Tapatalk Quote
Guest Posted March 4, 2011 Posted March 4, 2011 http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/OXFORD-HOT-GRIPS-LIGHT-MOTORCYCLE-HANDLEBAR-HOTGRIPS-/190477895278Thar ye gooo.EDIT: And to prolong battery life - Whenever you start the bike (with the start button, obv), always turn off the headlights e.t.c., and never turn the heated grips on until the bike is running ok. So, get it going with choke, once the revs pick up turn 'em on. Quote
Susieque Posted March 5, 2011 Posted March 5, 2011 Cheers for that link Dan - I had terrible circulation and they could just help! As a side note though, on my YBR you can't turn off the headlights - they're on as soon as you turn the ignition on! It's a PITA when you've had to kickstart the bike & you're trying to charge it after not using it for a while! Quote
