TC Posted April 25, 2011 Posted April 25, 2011 Good on you for not going to the rip off shop. It amazes me how these places keep operating. As for the good guy that can't do much because of his body he's sounds like a great 'font of knowledge' so i would keep going there use his brains and your body to get the work done between you. Guest Hodgy Posted April 26, 2011 Posted April 26, 2011 £250 for changing the pads, seals and a clean up on two callipers? I'd of driven up to scotland and done it for that Total rip off, find someone else, especially if it didn't need it! Quote
Guest Posted April 26, 2011 Posted April 26, 2011 What a joke. On one of the forums i am, there is a praise and shame section, works well. Quote
Decor58 Posted April 26, 2011 Posted April 26, 2011 If the calipers are in good condition then yeah, changing pads is a very quick and easy job, but if they're a bit old and require cleaning etc then getting pistons out & back in again is such a pita. Took me a whole afternoon to do my rear one yesterday, so if it takes them a couple of hours I can understand maybe £100-150 or so.However a simple job like yours? That's ridiculous! Quote

Best way to learn how to fix something is to break it first!! Its a good idea to buy some knackered parts to play with! I taught myself how to strip + rebuild forks the other day! Been fixing bikes/cars for years but never done fork seals before. Turns out its quite easy!! Haynes manuals are very useful and so is the internet! You can usually find a how to guide for most jobs and if you get stuck theres places like this forum which are a fountain of knowledge! How we managed before the internet i'm not too sure!!!You could save yourself alot of money! Quote
megawatt Posted April 28, 2011 Posted April 28, 2011 I kin hate thieving bike shops. Always done my own with a trusty Haynes and mechanical sympathy, oh and a decent set of tools. If in doubt, just ask. Quote
