mealexme Posted May 13, 2011 Posted May 13, 2011 Can't get it off... does it require pure strength or is it locked on or something? because even with wd40 its not budginghttp://farm3.static.flickr.com/2728/5716431670_e998bbfd31.jpgand the other sidehttp://farm3.static.flickr.com/2221/5716428318_de5a9ddb38.jpgthanks Alex Quote
megawatt Posted May 13, 2011 Posted May 13, 2011 Pure strength mate. Use correct size , preferably hexagon, socket, with a long bar on the ratchet if you have to and lean on it. Probably been Loctited on . A strongarm is better than a ratchet, but I assume you haven't got one. Quote

Not got an extending arm (pipe) but i do have a mother with a hammer. me holding the ratchdt and her hitting it with a hammer isn't doing anything... Quote
Guest Posted May 13, 2011 Posted May 13, 2011 mine was a pain in the neck to get of aswell had to put my foot on the ratchet lol the proper way is to get a breaker bar Quote
megawatt Posted May 13, 2011 Posted May 13, 2011 What Numbers said, the longer the bar the more leverage. You won't shock it off with a hammer if it's been Loctited. I used a 4 foot long bar on a fron sprocket nut!!! Quote
Colin the Bear Posted May 13, 2011 Posted May 13, 2011 WD40 is a dewatering fluid. It has many uses. For siezed nuts/bolts use a dedicated penetrating oil preferably with graphite. You may have more success with an impact driver than smacking a spanner. Try tightening then loosening.Pop the wheel down to a local tyre place and let them have a crack with the air tools.Dont hit your ratchet drive with a hammer. It's not built for it and is expensive to replace. Quote
Decor58 Posted May 13, 2011 Posted May 13, 2011 Either find a long bar to put over the wrench to get some extra leverage (every little helps) or just nip down to the local garace, should take them 2 mins to get off and if they charge you more than £5 they're nobs lol Quote
bullet5 Posted May 14, 2011 Posted May 14, 2011 Damn this thing! This is the 4th time i've tried to reply... Anyway, if you've still not got it apart, then put it all back together and on the bike. You may refuse at 1st, but if you can get a spanner/ratchet behind the swinger and onto the nut, then you can apply a hell of a lot more pressure than you can currently. Get a friend/family member to hold the rear brake on (hard) while you push downwards with your tool. This way it'll take less effort and your not fighting yourself with trying to hold the sprocket carrier and undo it at the same time. Oh and always push downwards, unless you have lightening fast reactions because there is less chance of your spanner/ratchet comming off the nut and hitting the paintwork. Also means your not lifting the bike. Good Luck. Quote
mealexme Posted May 14, 2011 Author Posted May 14, 2011 Done it Ended up holding the wheel between my legs and pushing down with all my weight. got new shiney chain and sprokets now :D Thanks for the advise all! Quote
mealexme Posted May 15, 2011 Author Posted May 15, 2011 Now get to the Gym :L But it was so easy doing it that way. Tbh i think it wasnt working because i still had the extender on it which meant it kept slipping and i was scared of putting all my strength into it because when it slipped with half my strength on it i jarred my wrist :sI know for next time - use the right tools haha Quote
Fozzie Posted May 16, 2011 Posted May 16, 2011 Next time sit the wheel up, place the ratchet on it and kick down on it I do it and it works everytime! Quote
