XmisterIS Posted May 27, 2011 Posted May 27, 2011 When I get my MOT done in June, I'll be getting new tyres put on because the one's I've got on at the moment are eeking out the last few fractions of a millimetre before they're illegal! (well, the back is anyway).AS for scrubbing in, I thought to bring a bit of finishing grade sandpaper with me and just work it across the whole width of the tyre before riding off. Is this a good way to instantly scrub the tyres in? BTW I'm getting Michelin Pilot Road 2's. Quote
Guest akey Posted May 27, 2011 Posted May 27, 2011 In a word no.There is more to scrubbing in a tyre than just roughing up the surface mate. Just dont ride like a loony for the first few rides and you will be fine. Quote
Decor58 Posted May 27, 2011 Posted May 27, 2011 Why waste rubber like that? Just go out for a long ride and as long as you're not thrashing it trying to get your knee down you'll be fine.Just gradually leaning over a bit more each time until you're rid of all the shiny bits. Also the 100 mile advisory is about getting a couple of heat cycles in the tyre as well before you go bombing around. Jixerman Posted May 27, 2011 Posted May 27, 2011 Don't botherJust take it easy for a bit I had Michy 2CT Powers fitted. Granted I did slide a bit when I first applied the brake. It didn't actually take that long to scrub em in and as long as your careful you'll be fine Quote
XmisterIS Posted May 27, 2011 Author Posted May 27, 2011 Thanks for the advice. I have never gone through the process of riding on new tyres before, except when I bought the bike, but then I'd only just passed my test so I was riding like an old granny anyway! Quote
Decor58 Posted May 27, 2011 Posted May 27, 2011 Well just go back to riding like that for 50-100 miles then lol Quote
Guest Posted May 27, 2011 Posted May 27, 2011 When I got my 2ct's I had KD before 100 miles, so did my mate . Quote
Mighty Mariner Posted May 27, 2011 Posted May 27, 2011 Just put two new Maxxis on and for the first 10-15 miles kept the throttle neutral around the bends then gradually give it a bit more and have done about a 100 miles on 'em now and they feel completely useable and no dramas. No wet riding though during the scrubbing process, I did once have a new rear on a bandit in the wet and it was interesting especially around roundabouts, very speedway. Fozzie Posted May 29, 2011 Posted May 29, 2011 I got a brand new set of tyres and after 50 miles went home, then went out again later and scraped the peg. Wasn't being excessive and it felt fine. If you let the tyres warm up and you give them a good run it will burn out the agents in the rubber that are left over from manufacture. In 50 miles of riding the bike and leaning over more and more with more and more throttle I think it was safe to say by that point they were scrubbed in. I give more time for the front tyre to run in though as it has no drive on it and less heat than the rear! Give it a good jaunt, go home and if it was a good long ride the heat cycle should be enough that its ready to go Quote
Danny-B- Posted May 29, 2011 Posted May 29, 2011 riding like an old granny! Ewwwwwwwww !!!!I just got a pair of Maxxis, ive only done 10 miles since i got them on though so still scrubbing them in too ... Couple of trips to work n back should do it though Quote
