Sc00by22 Posted June 6, 2011 Posted June 6, 2011 When I first saw the mess on my bike a while back I thought it was from an oil change or something, however today I needed to charge my battery up because it's flat. I disconnected the battery and noticed fresh oil on the back and top of it, it looks like my exhaust pipe is leaking a little bit. I'm thinking because I'm missing one of those metal coils around the join area however I'm not 100% sure, here is an image:http://i.imgur.com/NlJTD.jpgCan somebody confirm what my problem may be?The bike is a Yamaha DT 125 R Quote
bullet5 Posted June 6, 2011 Posted June 6, 2011 Looks like your right. Is the bike under warrenty? If not you could always either look for a dealer nearby that specialises in that make of bike, (possibly ebay but i'd be doubtful) or you could get away with using a small "C" clip.http://www.gencat.co.uk/New%20Images/home/exhaust_band_clamp_1.jpgTo make sure that it is that that's causing the problem, clean the area up, then run the bike for a few mins in the garage/drive while watching the suspect area. If the oil starts bubbling out of the link, then you know what you need to do. Quote
megawatt Posted June 6, 2011 Posted June 6, 2011 I can't fathom that picture? Is that a part of the exhaust in the picture. Is it a two stroke. ??? Quote

By the looks of it the pipe on this one runs under the seat. That join is where the can (and a short length of pipe that's attached to it) joins the main length and barrel of the pipe, you can see in the pic below.http://www.motorcyclenews.com/upload/217655/images/DT_125.jpgAnd yes I believe these are 2 smoke. Colin the Bear Posted June 6, 2011 Posted June 6, 2011 Don't be using a screw up hose clamp if it's designed for a spring clamp, very easy to damage things. You may have lost a gasket or the gasket has failed Quote
Sc00by22 Posted June 13, 2011 Author Posted June 13, 2011 Okay so I've found out that is the cause of the problem, is there an official name for that spring as I can't seem to find them anywhere on the internet? Quote
Tango Posted June 13, 2011 Posted June 13, 2011 I'd be inclined to run along to a dealer and see if they can identify the part....or see if there is a Yamaha parts list available on the internet. Bob Quote
