Nogin Posted July 20, 2011 Posted July 20, 2011 I have noticed recently while wheeling the bike in and out of the garage i'm getting a bit of noise from the chain and front sprocket. The chain is new only done about 500 miles and was fitted by a garage.I have checked the tensionChecked the wheel alinementCleaned all the crap out of the sprocket coverChecked the the front & Rear sporocket for wearChecked the chain guide and cleaned it.All is ok.The bike rides fine, changes gear fine, there is the normal tiny left/right movement as the chain sits on the sprockets. all looks fine, just when moving the bike by hand its a bit noisy.Any ideas or is this just normal and it will bed in?? Tango Posted July 20, 2011 Posted July 20, 2011 Just go round the chain and check that you've not got a tight spot on it.My Trophy chain used to be noisy when it was tensioned to spec....but backing it off a bit quietened things down a lot. Quote
Nogin Posted July 20, 2011 Author Posted July 20, 2011 Yep I've done that, I think I'll keep an eye on it and see what happens. Quote
Colin the Bear Posted July 20, 2011 Posted July 20, 2011 Try lubricating with SAE80/90 gear oil Quote
mealexme Posted July 21, 2011 Posted July 21, 2011 what type of noise?grindingstickingsounding like its wetAnd is it constant, or is it a repetitive sort of sound? Quote
Nogin Posted July 22, 2011 Author Posted July 22, 2011 Just clicking a clicking noise, it's constant. Quote
eastanglianbiker Posted July 22, 2011 Posted July 22, 2011 sounds like you might have a tight link on the chain rotate it slowly checking all the links are moving freely and that there isnt a tight spot in the chain Quote
whitedevil Posted July 22, 2011 Posted July 22, 2011 Should of had the sprockets done at the same time. Check the joining link was fitted properly ie not loose or siezed tight. Quote
Guest Posted July 22, 2011 Posted July 22, 2011 Easy way to check for a tight spot, is bike on a stand (paddock, full etc) rotate wheel backwards, any tight links will show themselves as they come off the sprocket, they will look like they are sticking to sprocket ... Quote
Nogin Posted July 23, 2011 Author Posted July 23, 2011 It's got new sprockets, I have checked every link and they are fine! I think I'll have to live with it. Quote
oslin06 Posted July 23, 2011 Posted July 23, 2011 I put a new chain and sprockets on my Bandit 1200 the other month and it clicks when I turn the back wheel it is better when I have just lubed it, I would not worry about it I don't, but I did have a very good look at everything and found nothing. the best answer I could come up with was the clicking was the chain dropping in to the front sprocket on rotation, but there is nothing except normal chain noise on the move and I have done 3000 miles now.Keith Quote
Nogin Posted July 24, 2011 Author Posted July 24, 2011 I have been through it again and all is fine, just have to keep an eye on it, but I think its fine. Quote
Guest Posted July 24, 2011 Posted July 24, 2011 on my bike its the front sprocket that just clicks, its always done it even after fitting a brand new chain and sprockets Quote
megawatt Posted July 25, 2011 Posted July 25, 2011 Check behind the front sprocket. Could be a piece of wire or similar wrapped around the output shaft, making a click as it turns. Quote
