I really like riding with my visor open. I would really like an open faced helmet, but I want more protection than they can offer. So, would a motocross helmet be a good compromise?

I would rather wear safety type glasses than goggles with it. I have some Bolle glasses I wear with my present flip helmet.

Any recommendations or suggestions?

Thanks.

It ruins the visor, I have scratches inside and out and it cannot cope with higher speeds. I tried

Take it off then! haha

wait.. is that legal? (because I think they are tested with the visor on/down, therefor its not CE (is that the right jumble of letters?) approved if it doesnt have a visor)

I suspect that is the case. I cannot find any safety ratings for Motocross helmets, there are none on the Sharp site. I also like the visor to help as a sun shade, which I would not get on a standard helmet.

I used a motorcross helmet when I had my Quad, I think they are fine but not much good at speed as the peak tends to catch the wind and pull your head back

Well they're popular with the moped massive round here. That'd put me off straight away! (I have nothing against peds, just against most of the chavvy retarded dangerous morons that own them)

The peak on a full on MX helment will catch at speeds above 60mph and will be alot noisier than a road lid.

Try a Dual Sport Helmet like the Shoei Hornet DS or the Arai Tour-x. The visors lift up under the peak and you can wear safety glasses or goggles with them, you can also fully remove the visor if you want. The advantage with Dual Sport helmets is they have smaller Peaks and are more quiet than the full on MX helmet (still noisier than a road lid though).

I have a Shoei Hornet and have used it with goggles and safety glasses and it works well.

+1......Keeps your speed down though! :D

I have this exact helmet, HJC CL-X4e. It has the gold sticker on the back certifying trrack use & it is road legal too.

A comfy lid (for a MX one :) ) & goes well with scott googles.

Thanks for the suggestions. My budget is more towards the HJC than the others. I saw the Arai today, but did not realise the visor goes up and tucks under the peak, which means some savinf is going to have to happen!

I got some Bolle safety glasses and rode a lot over the past few days with my visor up. I dont find having my head forced back much of an issue, the maximum speed I was at was 70mph, and I enjoyed the wind in my face.

Have you looked at this? Cheaper than Arai, and it looks nice in my opinion. I'm not sure if the visor tucks under the peak, haven't seen it in real life.

I saw the Spada and it was on the short list, which has now been whittled down to two

The Nolan N43 Air, using top right or middle left setups. It is exactly what I was looking for. The other condender is the HJC IS Multi
