griffo Posted October 7, 2011 Posted October 7, 2011 Yesterday and today I noticed that after starting the bike up and putting it into 1st the bike would jolt forward just a bit. Even though I had my clutch pulled in all the way.Now I noticed it quite a bit this morning, I was in a bit of a rush to get to work so didn't warm the engine up for as long as usual. When I parrked up at work, I thought I'd see if it did it again. So I changed from neutral to first, and it was fine, no jolt or anything. It peeves me that I don't know why it has suddenly started it, could it be the clutch? Can anyone shed some light on it please?CheersGriffo Quote
megawatt Posted October 7, 2011 Posted October 7, 2011 The clutch is on it's way out when the engine revs increse and the speed doesn't. If it jolts forward when you put it in gear, it could be clutch cable adjustment, cold oil, vacuumed plates sticking together or if the centre or basket is worn, stiction due to the plates jamming in wear grooves. See if it keeps happening , let your oil warm up and watch out for clutch slip. Quote

uk190 Posted October 7, 2011 Posted October 7, 2011 its very common for a bike to "snatch" a little when put into gear at standstill. nothing to worry about unless the bike moves forward with the clutch all the way in and you have to keep it at standstill with the brakes. if that happens, adjust the clutch a little. over adjusting a clutch could mean that it never disengages properly and is continually slipping, even if it not that noticeable. that will lead to shortened clutch life. i was always told that you adjust a clutch tso that it snatches a little, this should ensure it wont slip.hope that made some sort of sense. Boro Jake Posted October 7, 2011 Posted October 7, 2011 guessing the clutch is a wet sump, when did u last change the oil. Quote
Stu Posted October 7, 2011 Posted October 7, 2011 also a poorly adjusted chain can make it jump more then usual when put in to gear too if its only when cold i would do an oil change Quote
bigsisterbiker Posted October 7, 2011 Posted October 7, 2011 If i'm understanding right what has been happening, it sounds like what happened to me last year. All I had to do was bleed the clutch. Can't remember the specifics, but all to do with water in the fluid. Changes the viscosity of the fluid so the clutch slips.whatever it is, hope you get it sorted Quote
griffo Posted October 8, 2011 Author Posted October 8, 2011 I changed my oil & filter last week I went out on it today, let it run from cold for the usual ten minutes and it was absolutely fine cheers for the helpful comments though guys Quote
Stu Posted October 8, 2011 Posted October 8, 2011 it could just be that the weather is getting a little colder so the oil will be a bit thicker Quote
