I just wondered if anyone has ever used it successfully, as i want to!

Basically, i'm pretty skint, and my (relatively) expensive textile jacket pongs pretty badly, and i want to clean it. However, last time i tried to use Nixwax wash-in via hand-washing some textile trousers, they weren't any more than showerproof afterwards despite the claimed effectiveness. And i don't want to wreck the waterproofing in my jacket!

I'd like to use the washing machine this time (as i live with the in-laws... and they wouldn't be too impressed by my misusing the sink). I'm aware that you need to run the washing machine first a couple of times (or something) to clear the soap powder...?

Anyone had any success with this product, in the washing machine, with textiles, and cares to share what they did/how much they used/etc? I'll be doing my new 2nd hand textile trousers in there too, if they fit in the machine!

I imagine i should take all the padding out first?

instructions here for tech wash

Use neat Tech Wash® and a sponge or soft nylon brush to treat stubborn stains before washing. Remove all non-washable parts. Shake well before use. Follow care label instructions. Do not use detergents.

Machine Wash:

Remove all detergent build-up from the detergent dispenser.

Place item(s) in washing machine (maximum 2 items).

Use 150ml in medium/hard water* areas and 100ml in soft water areas for 1-2 items.

Wash according to care label.

Hand Wash (use gloves):

Immerse item(s) in hand-hot water in sink or bowl.

Use 150ml in medium/hard water* areas and 100ml in soft water areas for 1-2 items.

Rinse 3 times in clean water.

Drying:

Air dry or tumble dry on a low setting if care label allows.

* If your kettle furs up you have hard water. For extreme hard water use 200ml.

To waterproof breathable clothing use Nikwax® TX.Direct® and for equipment use Nikwax® Tent & Gear Proof. Use Nikwax® Cotton Proof for cotton, polycotton and canvas. No need to dry item(s) before waterproofing

and then you use TX.direct

For best results remove all non-washable parts and always clean item(s) first with Nikwax® Tech Wash® in a separate wash cycle. No need to dry item(s) before waterproofing. Shake well before use. Follow care label instructions.

Machine Wash:

Remove all detergent build-up from the detergent dispenser.

Place maximum of 2 clean garments in washing machine.

Use 2 full caps (100ml) per garment.

Run 30° synthetic cycle and slow spin.

Do not machine wash garments if taped seams have become dislodged.*

Hand Wash (use gloves):

Immerse 1 clean garment in 6L of hand-hot water in a bowl or sink.

Add 1 full cap (50ml) of TX.Direct.

Agitate to mix, leave to soak for 5-10 minutes, then agitate thoroughly.

Rinse with cold water until water runs clear.

Drying: Air dry or tumble dry on a low setting if care label allows. To maintain waterproofing always wash with Nikwax® Tech Wash®. Do not use detergents. *Faulty taped seams sometimes become detached on old or worn garments. They can be re-stuck using a proprietary clear glue after waterproofing and drying.

I used to use it on the ex's fishing gear just as Stu said & it worked well. I would imagine using it in the washing machine is more effective thsn hand washing.

Top tip from the wife.

Put vinegar into the washing machine and then run it on a quick wash setting with nothing else in the machine. That apparently cleans it out of detergent and gunk which means the Nickwax will be more effective.

Yep I use it all the time.

If you have a jacket where the waterproof liner has already failed this wont always fix the problem, its designed for gore-tex and similar fabrics.

My jacket is on its 4th or 5th routine of tech wash followed by TX-direct and its still waterproof, as tested at the recent MAG ride
