Throttled Posted October 31, 2011 Posted October 31, 2011 After my tumble the bike went to a local Kawasaki dealers. The repairs are new handlebars and a brake pedal as they were both bent. The final bill, including labour and VAT is £207. The parts are nearly £100. Is that a lot? Quote
Boothy Posted October 31, 2011 Posted October 31, 2011 100 for parts... you could get some renthals and some levers of tinterwebs for less than that. Quote
davefly76 Posted October 31, 2011 Posted October 31, 2011 As boothy said, you could probably get them cheaper online but you're paying for genuine Kawasaki parts from a dealer so they are likely to be more expensive. That and the dealer would be under obligation to fit genuine parts as part of their franchise agreement. Quote
megawatt Posted October 31, 2011 Posted October 31, 2011 Depends if you can't do it yerself? If you can, I have several pairs of Renthals and some Bandit bars. Nice levers can be had for £10 to £150 Quote
Throttled Posted October 31, 2011 Author Posted October 31, 2011 This was one for the garage to do. It just seems an awful lot of money. Quote
megawatt Posted October 31, 2011 Posted October 31, 2011 It is for handlebars and a pedal! Is the insurance paying??? Quote
Boro Jake Posted October 31, 2011 Posted October 31, 2011 Sounds about right for garaged rates. Do it urself there two easy fixes Quote
Throttled Posted October 31, 2011 Author Posted October 31, 2011 No, it is not worth claiming off insurance. Quote
Tango Posted October 31, 2011 Posted October 31, 2011 Easy fix....could save you a fair few quid.... Quote
techno Posted October 31, 2011 Posted October 31, 2011 Seems a fair enough price to me, suppose it depends how good you are or timescale for getting it done wether yoju decide to do it yourself or not.Maybe getting a couple of quotes to see if there all about the same? Quote
Colin the Bear Posted October 31, 2011 Posted October 31, 2011 For non insurance and minor repairs , the best way is to do it yourself, second best is to find a non franchised small shop you trust.Buy a manual , tools etc. Then frequent your local biker pub and make friends with one with the dirty nails. Fozzie Posted October 31, 2011 Posted October 31, 2011 I fitted a new powerbronze screen, anodized blue race levers, indicators front and back with the relay and LED tail light for £120 Buy some tools and do it yourself, it isnt hard, you wont get it wrong easily and its very self explanatory Quote

Thats what I thought and I was on a time scale as I need the bike for work and it the handlebars are beyond me at the moment. Quote
Mawsley Posted October 31, 2011 Posted October 31, 2011 I just paid £30 for a new set of bars for the GSX14. Labour costs whatever I drink in tea. Quote
Ingah Posted October 31, 2011 Posted October 31, 2011 To be fair i had a small nightmare changing my handlebars for the 1st time because i was having cables not reaching/streching etc.Thing is, the Renthal bars were £30 (and about £12 of that was for the bar ends!) whereas the official CB500 handlebars were £110!
