hammer5 Posted December 13, 2011 Posted December 13, 2011 ola..The disadvantage of having a naked and using a non OEM product is hiding the excess kit. Having had to replace the indicators, the new ones needed additional transistors which are large, I'm unable to hide them inside the bike so they are external. They need to be waterproofed, and as they are an irregular shape/size I thought of using these; http://www.studiospares.com/cable-insulation/heatshrink-tape-black/invt/538010/?source=215_74 Can anyone recommend this or any other option? I want them to be hidden, so defiantly black but 100% waterproof.I'm guessing I know the answer, just wanting some expert advice.BB Quote
bex Posted December 13, 2011 Posted December 13, 2011 not going to say expert advice but yeah i have used heat shrink lots, it does give a nice neat finish but as you can imagine the ends are not water tight, with wires coming in and out there is still a lil gap but nothing a touch of silicon neatly placed cant stop. hammer5 Posted December 13, 2011 Author Posted December 13, 2011 Thankx Good to have you back Bex Quote
Fozzie Posted December 13, 2011 Posted December 13, 2011 I use self-algamating tape as i've just replaced my indicators, if you wrap it up night and tight as well as neatly it keeps the wiring waterproof.I've used it and can vouch for it Quote
hammer5 Posted December 13, 2011 Author Posted December 13, 2011 A mate recommended that stuff, but doesn't it stay sticky? Quote
megawatt Posted December 13, 2011 Posted December 13, 2011 No mate, just a bit soft. It sticks to itself without glue. A bit difficult to get used to but you can wrap it around things. Heat shrink comes in a roll of tubing that you have to slide over wires etc. and then heat to shrink. A blob of silicone either end before shrinking works a treat! Quote
hammer5 Posted December 13, 2011 Author Posted December 13, 2011 I was about to buy some heatshrink tape for £10 then the p&p put it to £18. - my mate has some self-algamating he will give me, so why spend when you don't need too. BB Quote
Chrissb6 Posted December 13, 2011 Posted December 13, 2011 Hi, done correctly heat shrink is completely water proof, we use it down hole on drilling rigs under very high pressure. amalgamating tape is also very good just stretch and wrap once in place just finish off with some normal PVC tape to stop it unwrapping Quote
Colin the Bear Posted December 14, 2011 Posted December 14, 2011 Flop some silicone over the area. Comes off easy enough if it needs to be removed Quote
