Swiss Rolls Posted December 29, 2011 Posted December 29, 2011 in a previous post you gave your advice and i have flushed the coolant and re filled it and jet washed the f**k out of the radiators and it has improved massively, however the temp gauge does creep above normal, especially when riding slower. just wondering what to try next as i would like it to run how it used to ha cheers Quote
Tango Posted December 29, 2011 Posted December 29, 2011 IF you ride slowly the temp guage will rise. In 30mph zones my fan will cut in after a short while, but then the temp will slowly go down. So just watch for that......but if the fan doesn't cut in or the temp still rises when the fan is running there may still be a problem. After draining and refilling the cooling system it is possible to get airlocks....my bike needs the top hose squeezed with the radiator cap off to "burp" it....but once that is cleared the cooling works OK. Stu Posted December 29, 2011 Posted December 29, 2011 When you say riding slower how slow is slower? Stuck in traffic or riding at a steady 30? Quote
Swiss Rolls Posted December 30, 2011 Author Posted December 30, 2011 by slower i mean 30 or less, if it was in traffic i wouldn't consider it a problem haI had this bike all through summer and no matter how hard i pushed the engine the temp would never go above a little white dash about 20% up the scale (this is the only mark on the gauge apart from 'H') this white mark is where the gauge has always stopped no matter what the conditions, it would get there faster if i rode faster after starting but thats about it.i will have another fiddle with my radiator, and see if there is any air i can remove, but apart from that the cooling system appears to be working fine, but the bike still gets quite warm (just less than half way up the gauge). Sigil Posted December 30, 2011 Posted December 30, 2011 I dont really have much experience with this sort of thing but maybe it is the temp sensor itself? And while it dosent seem to be working as efficiently as it use to, will it cause any problems? it isent running at max temp still is it? Hope you get it sorted for summer tho dont want to miss out on the weather Quote
Stu Posted December 30, 2011 Posted December 30, 2011 I think you have a problem somewhere See if you can get a pressure test done on the cooling system Quote
Swiss Rolls Posted December 30, 2011 Author Posted December 30, 2011 i dont think the temp gauge is telling fibs, i can smell how hot it gets sometimes ha ha but yes when it gets hot now it is still less than half the gauge so wont cause any damage i think, however there is a minor problem remaining and i would like to sort it so it runs as it used to Quote
Stu Posted December 30, 2011 Posted December 30, 2011 IMO It's not a minor problem if its getting hot Have you checked the rad for bent/damaged fins? Any steam or smoke out the exhaust? Quote
