Guest Posted January 15, 2012 Posted January 15, 2012 I've got a Kawasaki zx6r 2001. It was dropped a few weeks ago at low speed on the left hand side. The problem is that key is stuck in the ignition so I've replaced the barrel and now the bike won't start it makes a click and the engine and neutral dash lights go dimmer but wont start. the clocks also don't work as they did. I've checked the battery, checked for broken/loose cables.Any help would be appreciated Wozza Quote
davefly76 Posted January 15, 2012 Posted January 15, 2012 Possibly seized starter motor. The click is probably the starter trying to engage, would also be a reason why your dash lights dim, as the starter is taking all the power from the battery. Quote
Stu Posted January 15, 2012 Posted January 15, 2012 You sure the battery is fine? The click could just be the starter solonoid But as above too could be starter stuck to free it rock it in gear Quote
Fozzie Posted January 16, 2012 Posted January 16, 2012 Checking is one thing, but a few weeks in the cold of winter will knock it out...Charge it up and try again, i had someone recently argue their battery was fine and the bike must be wrong somehow as it wasnt starting. Then he charged it and it went fine Quote
Guest Posted January 16, 2012 Posted January 16, 2012 used a multi meter on it and it read as 13 volts and i tried it in gear and out of gear.the kill switch is off. and the bike seems like it isn't even trying. Im going to check the starter motor and it maybe try replacing it.Thanks Quote
Stu Posted January 16, 2012 Posted January 16, 2012 try bump starting it first to see if it will actually run get someone to give ya a good push though dont try yourself if you get it going check all connections especially on the battery, starter relay and the starter motor it could just be a furred up connection and a new starter wont solve that Quote

Mine clicks when the battery has died. Get on the sucker, put it in first, hold in the clutch, press the starter button, Peddle it to 10 MPH ish, release the clutch. Job done )Stu Quote
Tango Posted January 16, 2012 Posted January 16, 2012 Deffo try bumping it first......no point in stripping it down if it is just something like the battery is low. Or try jumping it from another battery or vehicle..... Quote

Job done )Stuthought it was 2nd gear to bump? Also, it shouldnt be kill switch or side stand switch if it is trying to start. I would be tempted to use a multimeter whilst trying to start it to see how much (voltage is it) is going through, that way you can see if it has enough to start it. It does sound like a battery problem... Quote
Guest Posted January 18, 2012 Posted January 18, 2012 not tried bumping it yet but it just makes a singular click. doesn't sound like the bike is even attempting to start any ideas? Quote
Stu Posted January 18, 2012 Posted January 18, 2012 You got a set of jump leads and access to a car?Try jumping it off the car without the car running if it starts its the battery Quote
