So the local motorbike shop over tightened my sump plug and I can't get the f**ker off. Looking at getting some irwin bolt grips to get it off (unless someone can suggest something else?).

Anyway, seeing as I will have knackered my current one I'm going to have to replace it.

Can someone explain if there's any benefit to having a magnetic sump plug? I've done all the previous oil changes myself and never had a problem with it getting stuck. It was only out of laziness I let the bike shop do it...

Magnetic one keeps all the metal crap out of the oil, just make sure it has copper ease on the threads when you put the new one in.

thumbs up for the irwin grips, it was the only thing that would get my sump plug off. check the size you need as they come in a standard set and a expansion kit, guess who ended up buying both

Socket + wrench + 1 metre of steel box-section from B&Q to slip over the handle of the wrench and give you more leverage. Works every time and you won't knacker the bolt. :thumb:

have they actually over tightened it or if its just a bit tight and you don't have the right tools?

if they have over tightened it take it back to the shop.
