GarethNW Posted March 27, 2012 Author Posted March 27, 2012 I’m convinced now that the little hole in the picture is my breather!Spoke to a Kawasaki dealer with service shop and they pointed me to the pipe at the back of the tank being the breather when I’m sure that’s the overflow!Well I stuck a straw in the hole on the top of my tank and some blue tack around it to seal and it wouldn’t blow at all. Now it blows a little bit but seems very blocked. Going to find something to push down far enough to release what ever is in there!I still can’t work out why the tank doesn’t pull in air from the overflow pipe when a vacuum starts to form. Quote
Stu Posted March 27, 2012 Posted March 27, 2012 its hard to see from the pic where the tank actually seals that hole could be inside the seal which allows the air in get a thin bit of wire down it Quote
GarethNW Posted March 27, 2012 Author Posted March 27, 2012 There is a rubber seal on the main hole but that little one to the side is not sealed by anything.Wire will be used when I get back and hopefully that will be an end to it Quote
Stu Posted March 27, 2012 Posted March 27, 2012 looking at the pic what's the bit i have circled red? could that lead to the breather hole?? Quote
GarethNW Posted March 28, 2012 Author Posted March 28, 2012 Those marks are just fuel stains but that cap is solid all the way around. Managed to clear that hole and touch wood its been fine for the last 100 miles Never thought a breather would be in the fuel cap Quote
GarethNW Posted March 29, 2012 Author Posted March 29, 2012 Fuel cap open dam thing died again this morning!Time to pay for a pro to look at it?May just sell the dam thing and get a fazer! Quote
Stu Posted March 29, 2012 Posted March 29, 2012 I will take it off your hands for a fiver Before you take it to a pro check your fuel tap if it has one there should be a vacuum hose that opens it up when the bike is running it may have a small hole in it causing it to not open properly Quote

GarethNW Posted March 30, 2012 Author Posted March 30, 2012 I’m getting to the pint now where I can guess when its going to cut out. Same distance every time.Well this is what my fuel tap looks like. Going to take the tank off tomorrow and drain it to see if I can work out if there is an issue. I can see how the reserve works but doesn’t look like there is another output other than to the engine? Quote
Tango Posted March 30, 2012 Posted March 30, 2012 Yeah....it's just a manual tap. Just as a matter of interest have you tried leaving it on reserve? Quote
Tango Posted March 30, 2012 Posted March 30, 2012 I'd take the tap apart and check it internally just in case there's a bit of rubbish stuck in there..then give it a blow out with compressed air... Quote
GarethNW Posted April 2, 2012 Author Posted April 2, 2012 It's in with the pro and he thinks it will be the fuel pump that's doing it.I hope it works, its so annoying Quote
Tango Posted April 4, 2012 Posted April 4, 2012 Well yep....fuel pump cutting out would certainly do it......hope you get it sorted mate...... Quote
