Guest Posted July 16, 2012 Posted July 16, 2012 hi there, i am new to this forum so i apologise for any misconduct if any.i took my bike for a drive last night and it was running beautifully, i then started it up for work this morning and it now sounds like a dirt bike??!! it sounds like something has come un attatched but i couldnt see anything unusual near the exhaust pipe. everything seemed to be all in one piece, i gave it a wobble and it seemed a little loose but not hanging off.just so you guys know, im not a mechanic and i have no idea about mechanical engineering so lamens terms would be helpful!if you have any ideas as to whats happened to my poor bike please give me all the info you can, i.e, is it dangerous to ride while in this condition?cheers. Guest Posted July 16, 2012 Posted July 16, 2012 and its the 2007 model with all stock parts as far as im aware if that helps! Quote
megawatt Posted July 16, 2012 Posted July 16, 2012 Has the baffle disappeared? Is there anything in the silencer??? A piccy would help? Quote
Grumpy Old Git Posted July 16, 2012 Posted July 16, 2012 Exhaust should not 'wobble'! Start it up and put your hand near (but not on) the exhaust pipe where it comes out of the cylinder block - If you feel exhaust gasess then the problem is this fitting is not tight. needs to have a servicable gasket and exhaust gasket compound applied. If you cannot feel anything then maybe your baffles have blown. Not dangerous but could be an MoT failure. Quote
Guest Posted July 16, 2012 Posted July 16, 2012 thanks for your replies, i am currently at work so i cant get any detailed pictures of it. i can take a picture whilst its parked up the road but i dont know if it will help. i could take a video with the engine running if i can upload that on here? eastanglianbiker Posted July 16, 2012 Posted July 16, 2012 if you cant upload it onto the forum then upload it onto youtube and put the link on here Quote
Guest Posted July 16, 2012 Posted July 16, 2012 i will be finishing work shortly so i shall inspect the gasket and see if thats still intact, if its underneath ive been told to wrap it with a red bull can to minimise noise for now. i will still put up a vid when i get bk just incase. Quote

Guest Posted July 16, 2012 Posted July 16, 2012 Ha I think the bloke was just giving an example... But if it gives my bike wings I'm not going to complain. I've worked out what's wrong with it, the tube connecting the engine to the exhaust can has broken away at the can end, meaning I get a lovely rattly chugging sound. Any idea how I can minimize noise? I don't see how I'm guna get a can around it? Quote
mattycoops43 Posted July 16, 2012 Posted July 16, 2012 Is it a clean break? if so, might be able to get it welded up, shouldnt cost a lot. Quote
Guest Posted July 16, 2012 Posted July 16, 2012 Um... So so, pretty rusted probably better to get a whole new exhaust system... Not cheap but I'll benefit from it in the long run. Can new exhausts boost performance? I expect that if so tht its only marginal? Quote
Dazzled Posted July 16, 2012 Posted July 16, 2012 Aftermarket exhausts can boost performance but before buying one you should check that the bike won't require other mods, such as re-jetting the carb, and that this in turn won't put the bike into an illegal power bracket (I assume it's on L plates-forgive me if I'm mistaken). Otherwise you'd be better off with a standard or pattern system. Quote
