Jon5465 Posted July 18, 2012 Posted July 18, 2012 Hi all,I've bought a cg125 '02 plate and it starts up fine with the kick start ( apart from a few initial choke issues) but my next query is about my battery. The guy who sold me the bike says he replaced the battery 2 years ago with a new one, but the bike has been stationary for the past 3 month albeit on a trickle charge. My headlights & indicators both work as does the horn & neutral light... But when I push the electric start allI can hear is a quick clicking sound & the engine will not turn over. Should I look to get a new bat + acid & charger or should I just invest in a charger & have a go myself? Or am I being newbieish and overlooking something else. Otherwise Im loving the bike!! =cDMany thanks, Jon Quote
megawatt Posted July 18, 2012 Posted July 18, 2012 Battery may be knackered. Give it a boost charge or a long trickle charge with a bike charger and see if it is OK next time you try it. Voltage should be 12.5 to 13.5 volts. Quote
Fast Eddie Posted July 18, 2012 Posted July 18, 2012 if you do buy a new one, look at the gel batteries where you don't have to worry about acid. e.g. the motobatt brand Quote
borgy95 Posted July 18, 2012 Posted July 18, 2012 acid batteries, will have charge when brand new... gel ones won't...that should help you decide about your charge needs. Quote
Stu Posted July 18, 2012 Posted July 18, 2012 Once the bike is running it should charge the battery up It sounds like the battery is not holding a charge so it could be buggered the charging system sounds like its working as the lights and indicators work Do as mega says and charge it then check it Quote
Tango Posted July 18, 2012 Posted July 18, 2012 Save youself some money and just use the kickstart..... You can use the money you save to buy lots of carrots....you'll need to improve your eyesight for the winter nights as the CG headlight is next to useless...... Quote
