Tyre Life - Subjective I know

Just wondering if anyone can give me an estimate of how much wear is left on my rear tyre. I know it's a subjective/variable answer based on riding style and roads etc.

They are Bridgestone BT-21's iirc.

I'm just trying to work out when to get it changed - before/during/after trip to cornwall.

Just measured next to the inner most wear marker and apparently I have 2mm left. We've got about 800-900 motorway miles to do getting there and back plus a couple of hundred fun miles on the way plus what ever miles we do there.

Currently I'm thinking ride down and get it changed on the first day were there which will just be a lazy day anyhow.

Any opinions? Thanks

I have just ordered a new front one as it is nearly down to 1.5mm you might get a few more miles out of it, but it will not be good in the wet and you are more likly to get a punture if you are unlucky, I would change it.

Getting it changed on your "lazy day" sounds like a good plan Ed. BT021's have a harder compound in the centre of the tyre....and as you'll be heading down on Motorways it should be good for the run down as you'll mostly be using that part of the tyre..... 8-)

Just my thoughts mate.....

Cheers Tango. the sides look fine for some time so even a blast on the twisties should be no problem. I'll have to give it a double check after next weekend to see how it's lasted, just in case i kill it before then.

Next question: replace with BT-021, BT-023 or Contiroad Attacks?

Edited to add, even if the tyre was new when i got the bike, I've still got 7k miles out of at worst 4mm (think they have 5 or 6mm when new). should give me a safe 1.5k left.
