Ninereeds Posted September 18, 2012 Posted September 18, 2012 anyone got one?i picked one up at the BMF show on the weekend. fits like a glove, is really light, has a drop down sun visor, loads of peripheral vision and looks sexy as, however...jesus christ its so loud! theres no padding that covers the ears it just surrounds it. anything above 60 and I get a high pitched whistle (useful for knowing when im doing 60) which is seriously annoying. Is this just bad luck on my helmet choice or is something defective in the helmet do you think? Quite annoying because i thought that my first helmet was bad for wind noise only to "upgrade" and find its near silent in comparison. (yes i realise i upgraded in almost every other aspect but still)any ideas/suggestions? Quote
mattycoops43 Posted September 18, 2012 Posted September 18, 2012 Different lids are just different at wind protection. My last but one lid was an FM that I found after I had bought it was an AGV race lid they had sold to FM at the end of it's life. It was hell over 50, even with earplugs in.Does your lid have a lot of vents etc on the outside? If so it is probably more race oriented and they tend to just want to get a lot of air through them, rather than the comfort of a touring lid. Quote
Ninereeds Posted September 18, 2012 Author Posted September 18, 2012 only 3 vents, 2 on the top side by side and 1 on the chinguard, ill try closing the top ones but the whistling only happens when your head is facing forwards, if i turn off to the side it stops. sounds like its coming from the side of the lid too, like maybe the visor pivots or something.just bad luck that i picked a helmet out without researching it online first? Colin the Bear Posted September 19, 2012 Posted September 19, 2012 Check the visor is fitted properly and is the right one. It might adjust for a tighter seal or even fit a bit of tape or draught excluder foam to seal the gaps. Shows are good for bargains but you can't take it back easily and they know. You'll find a lot of seconds and returns posing as bargains. Some are, some aren't. Quote
Joeman Posted September 19, 2012 Posted September 19, 2012 Google Search "AGV s4 wind noise"Seems there are quite a few people complaining about wind noise from this lid... shame as it does look very cool. Quote
790Bonneville Posted January 14, 2013 Posted January 14, 2013 I think the problem is ...it fitting like a glove, you really need one to fit like a helmet. Quote
Guest Posted February 20, 2013 Posted February 20, 2013 Yeah a few of the mid range AGVs are quite loud. Its a nice looking helmet with good features , but they are noisy buggers!Few mates of mine have AGVs and do struggle with the wind noise. Try putting abit of silicon on the visor seal, just to harden it up and tighten the base plates cos sometimes that can help reduce the noise if its coming in around the visor! Quote
Ninereeds Posted February 21, 2013 Author Posted February 21, 2013 Thanks for the advice chrissy, i think the problem is that the visor fit/seal is just plain bad. it only touches/seals at one point, the rest of it is open, so wind and cold air get into the lid and it creates a lot of noise. you really have to slam the visor down to get a good seal on it, and even then on the motorway doing lifesavers the wind tends to open it back up again, so its only a temp fix. the rest of the time it has quite a sizeable gap on the bottom, and at the top around by the hinges. see pics below:what sort of thing do you mean by "add some silicone"? what product specifically? also could you explain tightening the base plates for me? Thanks!top of visorbottom of visorbottom left Quote
Guest Posted February 21, 2013 Posted February 21, 2013 Yeah I see what you mean. Its quite a sizeable gap! Maybe the silicon idea wouldn't work in this case unfortunately! The silicon I'm on about is just a small, small tub you get included with some helmets. I can't for the life of me think what the proper name for it would be for searching for it, or asking around.. I apologise! To tighten the base plates, remove your visor (carefully, cos its an agv, can be a pain in the ass!) then tighten the screws on each base plate. Then when you are sticking the visor back on, make sure both sides have clicked in properly and tight. See how that goes!If you take it to your nearest AGV stockist, they might have the 'silicon' I'm on about, but as I said thats what I know it as. Probably isn't called that Quote
Joeman Posted February 22, 2013 Posted February 22, 2013 Some of that stick on draft excluding foam would do the trick.. not pretty though Quote
NearOn Posted February 22, 2013 Posted February 22, 2013 I have had one of these helmets too and like others have said looks nice but wind was ridiculous, I now have a Caberg ego and that has a big vent like a sun roof on the top, and even with that is far less noisy than the AGV S4. Fixing that seal with obviously help but still think be pretty bad, just must be the design of them. Quote
OhJay Posted February 22, 2013 Posted February 22, 2013 Can you post some pics of the mounting plate where the visor attaches to the helmetYou can adjust it on most helmets to get a proper seal, that might help. I know when I got a new visor for mine the new one wasn't quite the same shape and was incredibly loud as well until I managed to adjust it properly. Quote

Guest Posted February 22, 2013 Posted February 22, 2013 Tighten the 2 screws top and bottom above and below the mechanism to tighten the base plates Quote
