Having not long passed my test and picked a bike up I have come off it:( . It hit the ground pretty hard and took a slide down the road on its left hand side but didn't hit anything. Damage consists of snapped left handle bar, bent gear leaver (but still selects all gears) scratched fairings, and a massive hole in the stator cover.

My plan was to get a new cover on there get new oil in and see if it starts. If it does I'll start fixing the rest of it up. Has anyone damaged a stator cover that much? What are the chances that bits of metal have made there was into the engine. I've taken the cover off and it looks pretty clean in there.

Just put bike on centre stand, put something on floor, under cover to catch stray oil, remove damaged cover and have a look for stray bits of alloy. Should be ok. Fit new cover with new gasket and yer ok. Replace lever, do not try to straighten it, it will snap. Good luck!

Bad luck mate....hope you didn't get hurt......bikes can be fixed or replaced.....

As Megawatt says....remove the stator cover and have a look around and remove any stray bits of metal in there.....any metal shouldn't make it any further into the engine as there's a seal between the crankcase and the Rotor....so the metal would be contained in that area. Check the windings on the Stator to make sure none of them are damaged. Should be OK.

Maybe a set of crash bungs when you get the bike back roadworthy.....

I'll let you know how I get on! Forgot the add, I spent a while looking for a tidy steel framed cbr600f and this was the one. Owned, by me for a total of 6 hours. :(

As for me bit of ligament damage to my thumb. I am pretty lucky really, it could have easily been a lot worse. Glad I had decent kit on. I did still manage to go through my Alpinestar GP gloves.

Glad you're reasonably OK.....decent kit is definitely worth the investment..... 8-)

I'm sure you can get the bike back looking pretty decent.......may just take a bit of searching for parts....... 8-)

So....what happened?......6-hours?....I'm guessing unfamiliar bike and a touch too much enthusiasm....

Just a touch. It happened pretty quickly I was riding then watching sparks fly off the bike as I slid along the floor. . In a nsl overtaking a couple of cars doing about 45, I dropped back in as van was coming the other way. I think I must have been braking as I passed over a cats eye and the front wheel skidded out. The annoying thing is I had more than enough time to get past the next and last car in the line. The van driver was a great chap and gave me and the bike a lift home.

Didn't half feel a nob coming off in front of the cars I had just gone past. Especially as it is about a 1 mile straight bit of road.

Buy yerself some crash bungs.

Great advice. All my older bikes had engine bars, but my latest hornet doesn't, so got some crash bungs from ebay for about £25. Very easy to fit and you don't need to worry about the occasional balls up.

Your bike looks like you collided with a tank by the way. Glad you could walk away. With the parts ordered, I reckon an easy fix with no special tools required. Good luck

Thanks for the replies all. Yeah I know how lucky I am.

The good news it it is well on its way to being repaired. Stator case/cover fitted today, new oil + filter and it started first time and the stator seems to be working fine as the battery is charging at about 14.9V.

Handlebars with all controls and indicators ordered this evening, just a mirror to find.

Its been much less costly than I thought luckily.

Stator cover :£21

Stator gasket: £7 (Crazy money for what it is!)

Handlebar with controls:£30

Indicators front and rear: £10

Not looked for fairing replacements and probably wont do for some time, they are scratched but still intact. I will plastic weld up the couple of cracks. Might even spray them over winter rather than replace. I will see how I feel!
