alexanderfoti Posted April 18, 2013 Posted April 18, 2013 Hi allI have recently changed out all the lines in my 1991 XJ600. I have replaced them all with goodridge lines. I have also overhauled the master cylinder. (new mc kit) The problem I have, is that I cant get the brakes to pump up, I have clear fluid showing at the bleed nipples on the front fork, but no pressure in the lever. Any thoughts? Quote
Voodoo Posted April 18, 2013 Posted April 18, 2013 Probably an air pocket in there somewhere. Unscrew caliper (don't disconnect brake line) and try turning it upside down or shaking it etc... Quote
alexanderfoti Posted April 18, 2013 Author Posted April 18, 2013 Will give it a go, many thanks. Quote
Guest Hodgy Posted April 18, 2013 Posted April 18, 2013 It can be difficult to get brake fluid to flow through the system and remove all the air if the system has been emptied as happens when you replace a brake line. The easiest way is to get a syringe and a lenth of clear tube that will fit tightly onto the bleed nipple, fill the syringe with clean fresh brake fluid and open the bleed nipple and fill the system from the bleed nipple.I've done this numerous times and it never fails to get a good solid lever very quickly Quote
alexanderfoti Posted April 18, 2013 Author Posted April 18, 2013 I will have to give that a try, I have heard this method mentioned a couple of times. It does seem to be the best method as the bubbles will be forced up with the fluid. Quote
Stu Posted April 18, 2013 Posted April 18, 2013 Pump the lever a few times hold in and crack the banjo bolt at the master cylinder have a rag wrapped around it though The mc are a hot spot for air locks Quote
alexanderfoti Posted April 18, 2013 Author Posted April 18, 2013 Turned out the air pocket was in the caliper bodies, moving the pistons all the way in and then pumping them back out sorted the problem Nice firm lever now, lovely jublies. Thanks all! Quote
