davidbg93 Posted June 26, 2013 Posted June 26, 2013 Hello.. todays problem on my GPZ500S is that when I turn the key the ignition comes on and all the lights and horn etc work - then when I hit the engine start button all the power just cuts out. All the fuses are fine and after about 10-15 second it will turn back on again and do the same thing again... battery is fully charged on a trickle charger... no wires touching each other that shouldnt be as far as I can tell... any ideas? Check the earths.....especially the battery to frame and engine to frame...thats what often gives those symptoms... Quote
Tiggie Posted June 26, 2013 Posted June 26, 2013 as said check earths, if you have heated grips an alarm or other accessories try disconnecting them. check the connections to the starter solonoid as well. Quote
eastanglianbiker Posted June 26, 2013 Posted June 26, 2013 as above check earths and both connections on the battery Quote
Stu Posted June 26, 2013 Posted June 26, 2013 Put a multimeter across the battery then hit the starter and give us the reading Battery could be shafted and when load is applied it could lose all power Quote
Fozzie Posted June 26, 2013 Posted June 26, 2013 Shagged earths and/or shagged batteryI have one of these and I see lots of corrosion so be weary! Quote

acting_strange Posted June 27, 2013 Posted June 27, 2013 Hi, thanks everyoneI'm certainly no expert but can't see anything obvious - have a look Ok thats the battery end but what about the other end of the main wires (the thick ones that come off the battery) especially the Negative one where it joind the frame/chassis?And are those we can see tight? Quote
davidbg93 Posted June 27, 2013 Author Posted June 27, 2013 they have a little play in them but they are reasonably tightI have just spotted this red wire in the bottom of the picture that seems to be disconnected from a socket - could that be what's causing it? Quote
acting_strange Posted June 27, 2013 Posted June 27, 2013 reconnected - no difference Have you actually checked the earth connections...this will often mean taking them off, cleaning them and putting them back on again... Quote
Tiggie Posted June 27, 2013 Posted June 27, 2013 what about the other end of the main wires (the thick ones that come off the battery) especially the Negative one where it joind the frame/chassis? this is what I would do first Quote
