DeltaLima Posted December 2, 2013 Posted December 2, 2013 So, 3 times in an hour the bike has dropped itself out of 5th gear, doing about 50mph-60mph. I get the initial engine roar, ease off the throttle and then it seems to pick up a lower gear, I feel the jolt forward as the engine braking kicks in and then it's fine again for a while. I'm thinking chain might need tightening, but it doesn't seem that loose? What else could be causing this? Quote
Tango Posted December 3, 2013 Posted December 3, 2013 Are you wearing different boots?......you may laugh, but sometimes changing your footwear can change the feel of the gear shift.....and you don't lift it into gear fully, allowing the box to drop out of gear.Other than that.....chain tension, engine oil.......and worst case, bent selector forks. klingelton Posted December 3, 2013 Posted December 3, 2013 search back through my posts. i posted a guide on checking your chain. failing that, there's plenty of guides on youtube. You don't want a slack chain! Quote
eastanglianbiker Posted December 4, 2013 Posted December 4, 2013 as the others have said chain maybe needs adjusting and also wearing different boots or even thicker socks can make the feelings totally different as you change gear Quote
