Hi,a friend of mine owns a sinnis apache 125 ,he removed the emission control valve on the cylinder head and blanked off the hole, after a short ride the bike kept cutting out when he got it running again it had a horrible knocking noise he's put the valve back but still has the knocking,we have both puzzled over this and he is a car mechanic but we can't figure out what is causing the knocking?????? HELP PLEASE

the chances are the valve and the noise is totaly unrelated

all the valve does is put clean air in to weaken the emissions

I'm not sure that you can just blank off the control valve......I'm guessing it's what is referred to as the SAI (Secondary Air Injection) on Triumphs and I'm fairly sure that it needs the ECU map changed to eliminate it.....or have the Lambda sensor in the exhaust eliminated as well...... :?

But it sounds like the mod has buggered something up........pull the spark plug out and see if you can see anything on the piston crown with a torch......otherwise it sounds like an engine strip to investigate.....

Bob it depends on the bike

on mine it vacuum operated and you just pull it all out and blank the holes in the air box and heads

newer bikes are controlled by the ECU as you say and aren't as easy to remove but removing them doesn't harm the motor at all or it shouldn't

OK......I guess it's not likely to be ECU controlled on the Sinnis......

I thought that the secondary air injection is used to raise the heat in the exhaust to get the cat up to temperature and the Lambda sensor monitors the O2 levels in the exhaust.......so with the SAI blanked off the Lambda sensor could call for more/less fuel to balance the O2 levels and that's when things can get ugly......

yeah I dont think it will be ecu controlled

secondary air injection could well be all that but for bikes without cats and lambda sensors it just sticks air in the exhaust ports in the head to weaken the mixture to bring emissions down

Thanks guys,he is going to strip it and see what's gone on,alot if grief for trying to get an extra horsepower lol
