Buying a bike with just green slip, no V5

find out why it is only got the green slip as it normally means the seller has only just bought the car/bike and new v5 hasnt turned up in their name or they are trading and not giving details to person they are buying from,hpi check should show up any problems

I agree with the last post as a precaution it'll be worth the few quid rather than have plod stop you and keep it :oops:

Could be they've secured the bike into one of those Registration Book loans and don't have a V5 to show you. Technically the bike wouldn't belong to them, it would belong to the lender.

the problem with those log book loans is the owner keeps hold of the complete v5 doesnt hand the loan company anything and they dont show up on hpi check either

I don't know enough about them but have heard it talked about in another forum. In any case it may be an option. Personally I bought a bike recently without seeing the V5 but I had enough documentation from the PO to know who I was dealing with and all our transactions were carried out under CCTV coverage! The V5 appeared through the post about a week later but I was nervous doing it!!
