Anyone know if there is a way to add on a hazard switch for my bike? Riding home at night the other day and the rear light conked out (didnt have a spare) i carry a spare all times NOW. but i still think if possible adding a hazard switch would be a worth while endeavour?

Easy enough. Just fit a switch and relay. Any on/off handlebar mounting switch will do. The relay will need to route power to all four leads to the indicators on seperate contacts (or, you could use in-line isolation diodes) to prevent 'issues' when the hazards are off and you use your normal idicators.

So what do you want a hazard switch for if you carry a spare bulb now?

Safer to unplug wires from brake light switch and bridge them with a paper clip, nail, fuse, anything and ride with brake light permanently on.

how long you planing to keep the bike for?

Long enough to expect to need the hazzard lights?

or short enough for the next buyer to be worried about a dodgy hazzard light switch??

Would be nice to have one for a backup? Got a qualified electrician for a friend who im sure will supervise so not dodgy. ^^

:stupid: Once you start to carry spares you can guarantee that the part you need won't be in your kit. It's called sods law !!

You do know riding along with hazards on will likely get you pulled by the plod - I believe its against the lighting regs.

Some bikes have hazards built in now though? Don't see why it would be illegal.

They are only to be used when the vehicle is stopped.

Driving along with both indicators flashing is going to confuse the hell out of some idiot cage driver!!

Spose that makes sense. Must be some exceptions? Eg you're stuck in the middle of nowhere and your tail lights goes out, you can hardly walk the say.. 20 miles home thats unreasonable. Compared to wanting to go out for a ride finding your tail lights broken and just using your hazards?

modern cars have a system that if a light failes, it compensates with another light in the same cluster.

So if a tail light fails, the system lights up the brake light.

If a brake light failes it uses the fog light, and if an indicator failes it will flash the brake light on that side only.

all clever stuff designed to keep the driver as legal as possible.

In the case of a bike, if you lose your tail light, just rig your brake light up to stay on.

I'll just carry a spare in future :D

Found out there is no seal in my brake panel so i put some silicone around edge and new bulb in now so should all be a-ok. spare in my tank bag just incase.
