devilchef Posted March 3, 2014 Posted March 3, 2014 Hi all Bikers,I am trying to find out the colour of my fairings, i know that they are not original to the bike, went to Halfords and they said they need a code. Is there a way to find out this code? Is it printed on theinside of the fairings for example or is there aplace or website i can use to determine what colour my bike is. If not, does anyone know of other fairings which would definately fit my bike (1994 suzuki gsx600 f ) Cheers in advance for any help Quote
Mr Fro Posted March 4, 2014 Posted March 4, 2014 It's usually on the VIN plate. Stick the steering on full lock and check the head tube.I wouldn't go to Halfords though, best bet is try a decent spray shop. Quote

I only want a touch up, that's all, hence why i want to do it myself however the fairings have changed just before i bought the bike, originally red now it is this kind of blue, i have had a look through all the colours available for a 1995 bike but not for my year (1994) as it doesn't go back that far http://www.colorrite.com/product/suzuki ... e-1714.cfm but the colour is very similar to the link. Do you know if earlier or later fairings would fit my year bike? If so that could make it easier to trace the colour better. Quote
Mr Fro Posted March 4, 2014 Posted March 4, 2014 No idea!in your shoes I'd zip to a dealer and see if they've still got their paint book and if they haven't I'd go somewhere like Halfords and use theirs (they should have three large folders full of swatches). I'd still get someone else to make up the paint once I had the code though. Quote
Adam Posted March 4, 2014 Posted March 4, 2014 Don't paint shops have those machines that find the right colour for you? I know they exist cause they have them in B&Q for colour matching it's just a device that scans the colour and finds the closest match.. In terms of the fairings fitting from other years it's a maybe, the best option is to find a local breaker and see if they have any you could try out, the other option is to make them fit but this will require some fabrication. Stu Posted March 4, 2014 Posted March 4, 2014 try RS bike paint http://www.rsbikepaint.com/en-gb/colours.php#makeid=142stay away from halfords and general paint supplies make sure you use one who knows about bike paints as others will just do as you tell them and once you have paid its game over Quote
Stu Posted March 4, 2014 Posted March 4, 2014 also check this http://www.suzukicycles.org/GSX-series/GSX600F.shtmlsee if any of it tallies up with your bike for finding the right model etc Quote

I know the fairings on the bike now is from a 600 gsxf as it has it on the side of the fairing but as to which year, i don't know. Quote

Their paint swatch books are ordered by manufacturer including bike manufacturers. It would be a good step if the OP took a bit of fairing somewhere with a swatch book, got the code and then ordered from a quality on-line firm.To be fair, he'll be doing really well to get a spot on match from a 20 year old bike given that the colour coat and/or laquer may well have discoloured. eastanglianbiker Posted March 5, 2014 Posted March 5, 2014 finding the paint code on your vin tag wont help as it will be red if that was original colour of the bike if you take a panel to auto paint supplier they will be able to tint match it for you and put it into an aerosol can and a touch up stick for you Quote
