hardleydavidson Posted March 15, 2014 Posted March 15, 2014 Hi,I had to visit some relatives today so I got the bike out, started first time off the button, ran great all the way to their town, didn't sputter or stall ran like a dream. So I do my thing at theirs and am about to leave, ignition works, fuel tap on, doesn't kick over on the button, kick start it and the same thing, it wants to start and sometimes I can get a few revs before it dies. At one point it backfired but just wont start. Put more fuel in it but still no joy.I'm thinking a clogged pilot jet/main jet maybe both? any ideas? at the moment I've had to leave it there so will have to fix it tomorrow. Quote
Stu Posted March 15, 2014 Posted March 15, 2014 if you got a back fire that is fuel filling the exhaust so not a blocked carb I would try a new plug first some bikes can be a bit funny with plugs Quote
bex Posted March 15, 2014 Posted March 15, 2014 it sounds silly but have you tried shaking the bike. this has been known to work lol Quote
hardleydavidson Posted March 15, 2014 Author Posted March 15, 2014 yeah tried shaking and rocking back and forth even tried lifting the back and dropping it in case it was a sticky float, still no joy. Quote
hardleydavidson Posted March 15, 2014 Author Posted March 15, 2014 Don't think so, have bright ignition light, electric start turns the starter no problem and as it keeps trying it doesn't decrease in speed or sound. Quote
Tango Posted March 15, 2014 Posted March 15, 2014 Oil level OK?As Stu says, check/change the plug.......and maybe just check that the compression is OK..... Quote
hardleydavidson Posted March 15, 2014 Author Posted March 15, 2014 I'll check that tomorrow, of all the tools I have onboard guess which one was missing...................plug socket. Quote
hardleydavidson Posted March 18, 2014 Author Posted March 18, 2014 Absolutely typical.Went over with my Dad and a load of tools to sort it out, started first time, been fine ever since.Grrrr Quote
