Guest Posted April 12, 2014 Posted April 12, 2014 So I bought a GSXR 1000 K3 last week, thought Id best put it through a major service for peace of mind and all that. Got it back yesterday, went for a little ride today and noticed smoke coming from the engine!!! On further inspection I see that the bottom of the engine is covered in oil, the oil filter sits just above the exhaust which I though was the initial reason for the smoke, maybe slight spilage but obviously not. could this be a faulty filter or something more serious? Guest Posted April 12, 2014 Posted April 12, 2014 Could be the filter not fitted correctly. You need to remove the fairing, give it a good clean then run the engine to see where the oil is coming from. Or take it straight back. Either away, I wouldn't use that shop again. Quote
eastanglianbiker Posted April 12, 2014 Posted April 12, 2014 i would take it back to the shop who done the work on it explain to them whats happening and give them chance to correct it Quote
Guest Posted April 12, 2014 Posted April 12, 2014 If they are so inept do you really want them to work on it again? That"s why I do all my own servicing. Quote
Guest Posted April 12, 2014 Posted April 12, 2014 Well I hope the filter isn't fitted correctly to be honest. It was a mobile mechanic who has previously worked on the British Superbike circuit so I'm hoping he kinda knows what he's doing I will get him to take a further look to double check his work. Thanks for the replies Quote
fq-craigus Posted April 12, 2014 Posted April 12, 2014 as already said, remove fairings as its relativly quick, clean all oil and run up and see where leak is, might pay to give the filter a tweek Quote

Stu Posted April 13, 2014 Posted April 13, 2014 Is it actually dripping oil? It could just be oil on the exhausts from removing the filter bit that should burn off pretty quickly Quote
Guest Posted April 13, 2014 Posted April 13, 2014 The mechanic in question is a really nice guy, he has offered to come on this morning to take a look. Don't know many people who would do that. I've checked the bike this morning and it's dripping oil, let's hope it's just a faulty filter!!! Quote
Joeman Posted April 13, 2014 Posted April 13, 2014 Reckon the rubber seal for the oil filter is pinched up Quote
