Hi all new to all this and I know I maybe done something wrong but best to ask. Chain on my bandit was loose so put on main stand and tensioned an oiled . Left on main stand and started up an put in gear to check it's going straight and the chain is banging like it's slipping, I guess leaving on the main stand is the issue but I'm not 100% any help would be great don't wanna be riding and the damn thing causes a issue.

spin the wheel and check the chain in the same place for tight spots and adjust it to the tightest part of the chain

if the tension is ok then running it on the centre stand will cause it to slap about a bit as there is no load on the wheel

Done the same myself. There's no load on the wheel so it doesn't run as smoothly as it would with some load on it. It'll usually spin too as soon as you put it in gear regardless of clutch position.

To check chain tension, put bike on the sidestand, lean over from the other side putting your full weight on the bike and check (with your hand) how far the chain moves. Use this as a simple check along with spinning the wheel when on the centre stand to check for tight spots.

To check for stretch or worn sprokets, see if you can pull the chain off the back of the rear sprocket at about the centre of the 'contact' area - Should be very little (if any) movement - if you can pull the chain back more than a tiny tad, then time for new chain and sproket set.
