Guest Posted June 4, 2014 Posted June 4, 2014 Just looking into appropriate clothing now, apart from the obvious waterproofs, what about protection from the belt down. I won't be wearing full body suits or bulky leather pants.. Are there any denim alternatives, maybe padded denim pants or something similar? Not sure about the terminology I'm looking for here. You guys probably know what I'm on about. Quote
nman1 Posted June 5, 2014 Posted June 5, 2014 Leather pants would be extremely bulky, however leather jeans or trousers are not so. Try googling draggin jeans, they come with Kevlar protection where needed, and are basically denim jeans Quote
runningman Posted June 5, 2014 Posted June 5, 2014 Hood do very good kevlar jeans too. UK made. Google them. Quote
banditjohn Posted June 5, 2014 Posted June 5, 2014 There are a few different makes out there and some even have the pockets for the armour so you'll have the impact protection, I tried the denim myself but didn't feel they were enough but I'm getting on a bit apparently and know I don't bounce as well as I used to Quote
Guest Posted June 5, 2014 Posted June 5, 2014 Draggin might be a bit too much for me right now...Hood look good for the price but just seen that the armor is optional and is about 1/3 more in price than the jean bringing the total to about £300..If I had a price range it would be about the £120 mark.. Got a nice tough leather jacket ready, no armor as such but plenty of tough grade leather and padding... Might look on the ebay and see what's going there. Out of interest do any guys on here ride without protective bottoms? I know it's not wise but there will be times when I will, I know it, but for longer and faster journeys I will definitely want some protective bottoms. Quote
Joeman Posted June 5, 2014 Posted June 5, 2014 Watch out for the cheap eBay crap. I bought some kevlar combat trousers and they feel so thin I would not trust them to save me from road rash. They quickly became my DIY trousers instead.I've crashes at high speed in normal jeans before. The pocket got ripped off and my wallet melted, and I was a little bruised but rode home anyway. In that accident I believe the wet road and the fact I rolled minimised friction so they didn't wear through. But it all depends how you fall. For short trips to the shops or something, I'd have no problem wearing normal jeans and a jacket. But then I have 100% confidence in my own ability to ride. If you're a newbie you might not feel so confident. Quote
Guest Posted June 5, 2014 Posted June 5, 2014 I actually run a fashion store, and we have a brand of jeans in who make tough RAW 14oz denim, these things are like carpets when you first put them on, they will be my main riding jeans, I wonder if I can actually just make my own and dew protective armor in them, because speaking of road rash, my 14oz RAW denims would love a bit of road sliding, they are all about ewearing them in over years of wear (no washing). So as for road rash these will be fine i think? But hip and knee padding is essential, I bet it won't be too difficult to get some plates and padding sewn in! Quote
nman1 Posted June 5, 2014 Posted June 5, 2014 Purchase a pair of these to go under the jeans. I use something similar because my leather ones have very little padding in them.http://www.ghostbikes.com/products/1090 ... wwod5BgAEA Quote
Guest Posted June 5, 2014 Posted June 5, 2014 They look good NMAN1, shame they don't go down to the knees.... guess it's just a case of bying really good kneepads then? Cause that's essentialy all you have sewn into leather or denim anyway isn't it... Quote

I bought some second hand Hood jeans for £50, I didn't bother with armour (personal choice etc), but sure I could have added it and still been below your £120 budgetIf you can get past the fact that someone else has worn them, second hand is the way to go. I'd rather have a quality second hand item, than a cheap brand new item........Just dont tell anyone they are second hand............. bugger ! Quote
Tango Posted June 5, 2014 Posted June 5, 2014 I'm sure my Hood jeans with armour weren't anywhere near £300..... £149.99 for K7 jeans with the cheaper hip and knee armour....£169.99 with the Pro armour.....not sure where you got the £300 from....unless you were including the jacket too? Quote
Guest Posted June 6, 2014 Posted June 6, 2014 On the hood website..K7 jeans £119Pro Armor £146 / £161 respectivelyhttp://www.hoodjeans.co.uk/acatalog/k7- ... -mens.htmlMight try Lycra for that price!I know you get what you pay for in this world but 300 just too much for jeans. Quote

You could call them to confirm, but my Hood jeans with armour were about £120 a few years back.....so they won't have doubled or more in that time.... Quote
