johnnyturnip Posted July 6, 2014 Posted July 6, 2014 Can I use an impact driver I've tried wd40 and Allen key with some good leveridge but no joy.Or will an impact driver just snap the bolts?.. Quote
Stu Posted July 6, 2014 Posted July 6, 2014 If they snap with an impact driver then they will more than likely snap any other way An impact driver is by far the safest way to remove these type of bolts If your in no rush then keep soaking them in wd40 for a few days and apply heat too Quote
johnnyturnip Posted July 6, 2014 Author Posted July 6, 2014 Thanks I've been soaking them for the best part of a week so I'll give the impact driver a go when I get to work tommorow. Really hope I don't snap any. Quote
johnnyturnip Posted July 7, 2014 Author Posted July 7, 2014 I've done it put the new end can but the seal doesn't seem tight it's dripping round the seal not sure of its condensation or what?. But worried about the ride home.. Quote
johnnyturnip Posted July 7, 2014 Author Posted July 7, 2014 No gasket from the old can or in the new can gonna use a bit silicone. Should be ok... Quote
Stu Posted July 7, 2014 Posted July 7, 2014 condensation nothing to worry about bit of heat sealant may help but is there a weep hole for it to come out of on the bottom of the can? it could be running down block the end up while its running to see if the exhaust is blowing anywhere Quote
johnnyturnip Posted July 7, 2014 Author Posted July 7, 2014 Yeah I could feel it blowing mate. I may go and get some exhaust sealant but I've been told to just use silicone other then that it seems ok. Only ridden it back from work and all seemed well.Cheers Quote
Stu Posted July 7, 2014 Posted July 7, 2014 silicone will melt!! and possibly catch fire! unless they said high temp sealant which is good stuff depends how bad it is blowing really Quote
johnnyturnip Posted July 7, 2014 Author Posted July 7, 2014 Ah thanks for that to be honest a few people said use silicone and the exhaust manufactuer said it also. I dont mind spending a few quid on exhaust sealant if I have too just been told silicone is good to go. I'm at a loss now.... Quote
Mr Fro Posted July 7, 2014 Posted July 7, 2014 What's wrong with silicone? That's what I use. Makes it all air tight then clogs itself with carbon. Loads easier to get apart than exhaust sealant. Quote
johnnyturnip Posted July 7, 2014 Author Posted July 7, 2014 From what I'm reading it needs to be a high temp silicone and normal silicone goes up to 250degrees it's long of ruined my day tomorrow as I was going to do it first thing now it's going to be a right faff trying to find a shop on my dinner break. johnnyturnip Posted July 7, 2014 Author Posted July 7, 2014 Holts gun gum seems to be the best bet at the min... And input would be much appreciated.. Quote
cockercas Posted July 7, 2014 Posted July 7, 2014 I use instant gasket or loctite copper silicone if i have any. Quote

littlecat Posted July 8, 2014 Posted July 8, 2014 gun gum sets hard and then becomes brittle , not ideal for what you're describing Quote
Adam Posted July 8, 2014 Posted July 8, 2014 I've used gum gum before and as said above it turns brittle and falls out from all the vibrations. I ended up using exhaust tape where my end can met the downpipe not the prettiest of fixes but worked a treat. Quote
GaryJM Posted July 8, 2014 Posted July 8, 2014 Get some high temp silicon sealant. On the end can to the link pipe it will work a treat. Gum gum is just a temporary fix. A proper gasket should be used from the link pipe to the down pipes. Quote
johnnyturnip Posted July 8, 2014 Author Posted July 8, 2014 Thanks I've got loads of household silicone here but it doesn't say any temp limitations on it do it looks like a trip to halfords on my dinner break. Quote

johnnyturnip Posted July 8, 2014 Author Posted July 8, 2014 Can't see anything about cure time on this loctite if I leave it five hours then do 2-3 miles home be ok?. Cheers Quote
cockercas Posted July 9, 2014 Posted July 9, 2014 Il go look but i use it for bearings and drive instantly. Quote
cockercas Posted July 9, 2014 Posted July 9, 2014 40mins to skin and it cures at 2.5mm per 24hrs. Id think 5 hours will be fine. Quote
