KTM21 Posted August 19, 2014 Posted August 19, 2014 So I have been practising on my bike and I am pretty comfortable and confident with it. I am planning on doing my cbt soon but the thing is I have no experience on the roads. What should I be studying to get the right information? Any other advice is appreciated. Quote
fq-craigus Posted August 20, 2014 Posted August 20, 2014 The cbt will take care of that, it's only the fear of the unknown your experiencing. No amount of studying will prepare you for the morning school run or the get home from work quick at all costs. Brush up on road signs and markings and do cbt then your training will start. Best of luck Quote
Glorian Posted August 20, 2014 Posted August 20, 2014 It's what the CBT is for. Compulsory Basic Training. They will teach you about safety gear, Roadsigns, The bike and its mechanics how it works(brakes engine oil etc), Then they'll sit you on the bike. Let you put it in gear and roll forward. Then do some circles of the car park(if you're in a car park) then they'll get you to do some braking, basic manouvers such as turning, figures of 8 etc. Then if they and more importantly you, are happy you'll go out for a ride, They'll fit you with a radio and give you instructions while they follow a safe distance behind to stop people tail gating you. Take it steady and don't act like an idiot, If they're happy with your riding, Congratulations you can ride a bike =D.Keep calm, and have fun! Quote
Joeman Posted August 20, 2014 Posted August 20, 2014 Won't hurt to read the highwaycode! The more you know before you get there, the less time they'll spend teaching you and the more time you'll get out on the bike!! Quote
Guest Posted August 20, 2014 Posted August 20, 2014 Get someone to take you for a ride in their car and have them explain what they are doing and why they are doing it to you - giving way, single vs double lines etc. Quote
staningrimsby Posted August 20, 2014 Posted August 20, 2014 Don't worry about it everything will fall into place when you are on the road it's more exciting than scary when you get out there . Just take your time and remember to cancel your indicators or they will tell you off Quote
craynerd Posted August 21, 2014 Posted August 21, 2014 I agree with the previous post about going for a run out in a car or even the bus and actually think about what's going on! As a young passenger most will just tune off during the journey. Just watch what's happening, at lights, crossings, junctions. Stand at junctions and watch. Is there a filter light, where would you position yourself. It wouldn't do any harm before you do your CBT. Quote
