Got an 08 CBR600F and the headlight is supposed to be on permanent - it's twin headlight and the left hand one (if you're looking at it from the front) is the one that supposed to be always on, other comes on high beam only. Problem is that it keeps going off and high beam wont work then either.

There isn't a fuse problem and the lamps themselves are fine. I took the connector out and cleaned it and it seemed to work for a while, then it started playing up again. Took it to the shop as I really hadn't a clue and they reckoned that they'd fixed it, 2 or 3 months later it's giving me grief again. It seems, in my limited knowledge of all things electrical, that the problem is stemming from somewhere near the start button - bear with me here... I turn the ignition on and sometimes the headlight comes on sometimes it doesn't, hit start and the light flickers, occassionally it stays on (bonus) mainly it goes back off. if I nudge the starter the headlight comes on and stays on. And basically on it stays all the way to work (16 miles, fast and slow roads, speed bumps, potholes the works) or wherever else I'm going.

So any clues, shop I took it to originally said that it was a simple fault and that I was lucky as it could have needed a new something or other (OK vague I know but it's 2 or 3 months ago now) and it would cost around £500 - they still robbed me blind anyhow I reckon.

There has to be a loose wire but how do i go about finding it and rectifying the problem?/

Could be a loose ignition switch contact or ,if there's a relay in the headlamp circuit, a faulty relay. Check wiring diagram and do some checking or ride down to my place and I'll fix it for you?

if the dealer sold you the bike with a warranty on it and you first took it in with the fault within warranty period then the very fact the same problem has shown up again says they didnt fix it correctly so even if its out of warranty they have a duty of care to fix the fault free of charge due to it being ongoing from within the time frame

Does sound like a dodgy relay or relay base......

Some bikes with headlights permanently on usually have a relay to cut the light when starting and as you say it's when you thumb the starter I suspect it's this relay that's sticking

You need to find it and check it out if it has one
