knocking clutch?

Hi all. Is a knocking in the clutch common on starting an engine from cold? Cheers

depends on the bike kawasaki from the 80's right up to almost 2000 were known for it its play in the basket you could change it and 6 months later the noise is back

the zxr400's was one of the worst

pull the clutch and it would go

its the main bearing replace it and about 5 mins later it was the same

Hi guys, and thanks. So are we talking a common thing ? or could it be something more serious ? Could thicker oil help ?

p.s. would an overhaul be an idea?

Lean the bike over or combine a oil change and pop the clutch cover off.

Look to see if the baskets worn were the plates sit.

The noise will be we're the plates are bashing against the basket.

Hi,

Both my Kawasakis did it and so does my CB500. Pull the clutch in and the noise is gone. Never did/has caused a problem. Personally i wouldn't worry about it.

It's a yamaha 400 4 stroker. Doesn't sound too complicated.

Fuuny you should say that, my 2 month old Z1000sx sounds a bit noisey until I pull the clutch in. I'll mention it at the second service when it's due in the new year. Sounds just like a worn release bearing.

Your wasting your time you could replace the whole lot and it will still be the same its pretty normal

Same happened with my CB500. Changed the plates and basket but no difference. Fine with the clutch in. Decided to ignore it in the end. Didn't do it any harm.
