min200 Posted January 11, 2015 Posted January 11, 2015 Well folks my eldest daughter went for her CBT yesterday and is pretty useless with gears etc. Now she is a timid girl at teh best of times so I am thinking along with agreement from here that a rev and go scooter would be best to start her off with rather than a geared bike. This way I can build up her confidence on a bike in an off road setting to start with so she can sort out her balance etc. Now I have np problem doing this but my question is this...When she goes back for her CBT again and does it then hopefully passes on a rev and go will she be restricted to this sort of bike? She does want to eventually to ride a geared bike so would she need to take another CBT on one when she was ready to ride it? Tango Posted January 11, 2015 Posted January 11, 2015 I don't think there's any differentiation in the CBT between geared and non-geared bikes.......Bonniebird's daughter did the CBT on a twist and go moped and then got a CG125 when she was 17......all on the same CBT..... Quote

Agreed.CBT is just that. No test or exam. Just training to make sure you have basic skills and are safe to be on the road.Once the cert is obtained you are restricted to any 125cc motorbike or moped. min200 Posted January 11, 2015 Author Posted January 11, 2015 Thats great folks thank you very much! Quote
Glorian Posted January 12, 2015 Posted January 12, 2015 Might be worth re-doing the CBT anyhow or some training so she gets used to riding with a geared bike under a qualified instructor. Quote
MissBex Posted January 15, 2015 Posted January 15, 2015 Yea, no restriction to just twist & go's if you take CBT on one, as others have said. I'd already been driving for 6 years when I went to do my CBT and training last year, but what I did do was book a free 1 hour session through Get On with the school which I found really great. It was just me and the instructor and it was my first time on a 125 geared bike. I found it really helpful and gave me a bit of a head start in training and control before doing the CBT which was with 3 other people (who all did it on scooters). Quote
