skiffer Posted January 24, 2015 Posted January 24, 2015 Is clutch slip when you open up the throttle and it seems to rev more than the power you've received at the wheel?? You know, when you open it a little more than usual because it's a long clear dry straight with no junctions. If so... changing friction plates isn't rocket science is it?? Also any suggestions on specific products?Should have taken a longer test ride on this bike.... Quote
megawatt Posted January 24, 2015 Posted January 24, 2015 Yes it is. When the engine speed increases significantly faster than the road speed. Clutch plate removal usually fairly easy apart from stopping the clutch centre turning when you need to undo the centre nut. Check frictions aren;t burnt or smell burnt and check steels aren't warped or blued. Can sometimes recover steels by surface grinding them. Barnett supply a lot of aftermarket clutches. Quote
Stu Posted January 24, 2015 Posted January 24, 2015 apart from stopping the clutch centre turning when you need to undo the centre nut. Which wont need to be done on just a plate change Quote
rob m Posted January 24, 2015 Posted January 24, 2015 Have you changed engine oil recently? I went from semi-synth to fully-synth on the 'blade and suffered horrendous clutch slip. I switched back and cured it immediately. Worth a thought. Quote
skiffer Posted January 24, 2015 Author Posted January 24, 2015 I've seen an entire clutch second hand for 50 from a breaking bandit. I smell odd smells now and then but to be fair it could be wiring as some of it looks alarming close to hit engine areas. But then I occasionally had strange smells on my old bike which was significantly newer. Knowing what smells are strange is kinda hard... Quote
skiffer Posted January 24, 2015 Author Posted January 24, 2015 I've got a whole long weekend next week... trottle cables/carb inspection/oil cooler attention and now clutch. Glad I wasn't planning on going away. Quote
skiffer Posted January 24, 2015 Author Posted January 24, 2015 And rob, no oil change. Literally had it a couple of weeks. Was going to include it in my weekend of greasy learning. Quote

Stu Posted January 24, 2015 Posted January 24, 2015 No dont buy second hand you dont know what you are buying! hence why you have clutch slip now replace with new and you know its new and will last EBC friction and stock steel plates work more than good enough replace the springs too no need for Barnett or other "high performance" (read high price) clutch kits Quote
skiffer Posted January 24, 2015 Author Posted January 24, 2015 Seen m & p on ebay selling fricion/steel/springs/gasket for 70 quid. Quote
Stu Posted January 24, 2015 Posted January 24, 2015 you want STOCK steals not the cheap shite others sell you WILL regret it yes they are expensive but they are worth it although check yours first they might be fine Quote
skiffer Posted January 24, 2015 Author Posted January 24, 2015 Ok so ebc do all the above minus steels.. so assuming steels are fine they'll do? Quote
Stu Posted January 24, 2015 Posted January 24, 2015 yup you got it I have found ebay the cheapest for EBC frictions look on EBC website for the correct code though Quote
skiffer Posted January 30, 2015 Author Posted January 30, 2015 So I replaced the fricion plates and springs.. If anything the clutch feels easier now. Not to mention it feels so much better when engaging now. Very smooth! I did however notice what appeared like scorch marks on the steels. Only a few and only small areas.... part of me thinks these now need replacing?? Also.. do steels have a particular way around? It's all running fine but I imagine if I've done something wrong i'll know about it sooner or later. Quote
