Paul-Kent Posted January 27, 2015 Posted January 27, 2015 So, I have my nav system sorted. What should I be looking for in a helmet speaker/bluetooth device.I have a Roof Boxer V8 helmet if it makes any difference Quote
Stu Posted January 27, 2015 Posted January 27, 2015 it depends what you want out of the system to be honest if your going to be riding on your own and not bothered about music or pairing to others then go for a basic headset if you want music and the ability to pair to other bluetooth headsets then you will have to look at something more expensive although saying that I think the majority of them have the ability to have music streamed Quote
Guest Posted January 27, 2015 Posted January 27, 2015 BT Intercom headset - Pairs with phone and other devices. I bought two - one for me and one for a spare helmet (if I carry pillion). I sometimes take off the unit incase my primary runs out. I can listen to directions from it and listen to music. (If you have an iPhone with Siri, you can use the microphone aswell).http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/2-x-800m-BT-I ... 5afc7255a6 Quote

The wife comes on the back with me and we have perfect coms together (up to about 60mph but that's pretty much standard). I've used it for rider to rider (with Raabey among others) and it's great as well. I also listen to music every time I ride and it's great when paired with my phone for that (or incoming calls / sat nav). IMO, people are crazy to spend £2-300 on a scarla or something when this can be had for £30 and does everything you need it to to the standard you need it to. Quote
Paul-Kent Posted January 27, 2015 Author Posted January 27, 2015 Looks good to meI love the sound of my exhaust note so I wont need it for music. Thanks for your help chaps Quote

wr6133 Posted January 28, 2015 Posted January 28, 2015 I agree with Phil people are nuts spending hundreds on branded ones.I had one of these originally http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Motorcycle-Mo ... 5411ce169d No intercom function but connects to phone/satnav for calls, music, etc. It worked fine till it got wrecked in a crash. Calls were ok up to about 60 mph, though this is more dependent on how noisy your lid is than the actual headset.I now have a pair of these http://item.taobao.com/item.htm?spm=a23 ... =12#detail which do everything and intercom between them. Again good up to around 60 for calls, music can be cranked high enough to hear it past a ton. Quote

Quality is good enough for me I have heard the quality from a more expensive intercom and it is slightly better just because it can go a bit louder before distortion sets in, but I wouldn't pay the extra £200 for it. The way I see it, I don't need amazing quality, I just need something to listen to whilst I'm riding. Takes the edginess away from too much focus and just something to listen to in the background. As a rider to rider / rider to pillion it's great. Quote

Chrissb6 Posted January 28, 2015 Posted January 28, 2015 Joeman yes there stereo, that's exactly what l have done. Our helmets don't offer enough free space for the supplied in helmet speakers so l disconnected them and soldered a 3.5mm stereo jack in there place we use these noise cancelling speakershttp://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B00D ... 35WV72JMVR crystal clear music and com's right up to silly speeds. Guest Posted January 28, 2015 Posted January 28, 2015 Music is the downside. I normally use an equaliser to remove the low frequencies as that's what maxes the speakers out.Looks like the in-ear speakers are a good idea Quote

al_stu Posted February 2, 2015 Posted February 2, 2015 Yeah a velcro pad inside the helmet and velcro on the back of the speaker Quote
Chrissb6 Posted February 3, 2015 Posted February 3, 2015 Hi, the speakers and microphone are held place in the helmet with Velcro stickers. The control module is mounted onto a quick release bracket. The bracket is fixed to the helmet by a clamping device which slots between the helmet lining and the outside of the helmet http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/like/27115993 ... 108&ff19=0Check out the mounting bracket, it's the fork looking thing on the parts list. It's all easy enough to fit Quote
Paul-Kent Posted February 3, 2015 Author Posted February 3, 2015 So it's all fairly easy and non damaging to remove, that's good newsThanks Quote
Paul-Kent Posted February 5, 2015 Author Posted February 5, 2015 Kit arrived today, very impressed with the overall appearance, fitted easily. sound quality seems decent. The only slight issue I have is the mic but I'm sure it'll sort it self out after a few trips out. Thanks for the advice gents Quote
Chrissb6 Posted February 5, 2015 Posted February 5, 2015 Good news, just be sure you get the helmet speakers in exactly the right place, a few mm off from being directly over your ears and there's a dramatic loss of sound. Put the speakers in the helmet first without the fixing then adjust until you get the sound and comfort sorted, then fix them in place with the Velcro provided. Quote
Paul-Kent Posted February 5, 2015 Author Posted February 5, 2015 yeah, sat in living room adjusting that, my other half was giving me strange looks Quote
Stu Posted February 5, 2015 Posted February 5, 2015 yeah, sat in living room adjusting that, my other half was giving me strange looks My wife gave me the "FFS" look every time I got her to put her lid on and talk to me In the end I just put some music on and did it that way Quote
Guest Posted February 6, 2015 Posted February 6, 2015 One tip Paul - on the part that connects to the helmet and holds the bluetooth device, it will require some adhesive or resin to strengthen. All 3 of mine have snapped at some stage because the plastic is just too weak. Joeman and Megawatt may remember it happening to one I had one a ride. Sorted with a bit of resin though and none have given me problems after that. Quote
Joeman Posted February 6, 2015 Posted February 6, 2015 Yep, I remember yours coming off your helmet at a junction... Think thats where you obsession with supergluing stuff started! Quote
