Been offered a bike with a knackered ignition, I'm expecting to find a new ignition and seat release at a bike breakers or eBay but how much hassle is it getting a new ignition matched to the ecu etc?

Would something like that be a main dealer job?

depends on the bike!

if it does need matching you will probably find it cant be done! and you have to replace the ECU and keys!

or get the ecu from the bike the new keys are coming from!

Owner put the key to his other bike in the ignition, tried to pick the remains out and trashed the barrel. The red key is still available so I wonder if things may not be so bad

having the red key changes everything

although I'm not sure if its just for coding new keys to the current system! I suppose it would depend if the sensor in the ignition is coded in too :?
