Guest Posted April 10, 2015 Posted April 10, 2015 (edited) I've done around 1500miles on my GSXR since it's last oil/filter change and have noticed my oil level seems a little low. Is it worth changing the oil now or should I just top it off? I'm unsure which oil is in it currently Edit: It has Rock Oil 10w/40 semi-synth in it currentlyBut of these two if I just top it off which should I use?Part Synth-http://www.halfords.com/motoring-travel ... e-oil-1ltrFull Synth-http://www.halfords.com/motoring-travel ... e-oil-1ltr Edited April 10, 2015 by Anonymous Quote
Mr Fro Posted April 10, 2015 Posted April 10, 2015 What oil do you have in it now? Just bung a bit more of that in it or if you don't know, go by what the manual says.I wouldn't change it at that mileage unless it's ancient. Quote
GaryJM Posted April 10, 2015 Posted April 10, 2015 If you don't know what's in it, just do a full change imv.If you can find out what's in it top it up.As to full or semi what does the manual recommend? Quote
Glorian Posted April 10, 2015 Posted April 10, 2015 Could change your filter to while you're there if you want to practice it ^^ Though 1500 isn't to much use out of old one some people like to change it every time they change the oil. at £5 not a huge expense tbh...I would read your manual. my GSF i put in semi i believe. If you wnat a good drain pain, tool station sold me one for a couple quid that holds something like 20 litres. Guest Posted April 10, 2015 Posted April 10, 2015 Hmmm can't see anything that relates to it. The only thing it says is use a premium quality 4 stroke motor oil that is 10w/40.Would mixing oils have any negative effect?ah cheers for that Glorian, I may have a look. I've got a couple of issues with it at the moment where I can't do certain things because of screws being too tight. I need to pop it into a garage to get them loosened/replaced so I can then carry out my own servicing.Edit: It currently has Rock Oil Guardian 10w/40 semi-synth in it. If I put some of the Castrol 10w/40 semi-synth in would that be alright? Quote
Glorian Posted April 10, 2015 Posted April 10, 2015 I use the guardian one on my bike.I've mixed oils before not done any harm? But i probably wouldn't know if it had.The oil filter shouldn't be screwed in anyway? It is just screwed in with itself relatively easy to get out, mine on the bandit is behind the downpipes. Just be careful when (if) you put the new one in you tighten it up by HAND, dont use a tool to tighten it as you might break it, also smear a little oil over the new filter before you put it on. Oh no I'm mixing tasks now, just having difficulty removing fairings and bits like that for other jobs I want to carry out. I need to find someone willing to give up time and walk me through it somewhen Kk, I'll grab some oil and top it up for now. Probably do a full change on the next bank holiday weekend when I have the time to do it. Quote
Glorian Posted April 10, 2015 Posted April 10, 2015 Fairings can be a pain in the arse.. Taking mine off tonight as its ratlting somewhere so gonna take it off and put it back on tight! Quote
Stu Posted April 10, 2015 Posted April 10, 2015 How low is low? It needs to be between the lines on the sight glass Quote
