Fozz,

With quicker riding and where there are subtle differences in skill/pace/bike power etc, you use the buddy / caterpillar system.

This is just looking out for the person behind you and waiting for them before you turn. More effective for my style of riding as it tends to be a system of quickest to slowest of the group so nobody does any dangerous overtaking like there *could* be like yesterday or on any second man drop off marked ride, where you have a really quick rider wanting to get to the front.

Unfortunately you would have preferred the 2nd stretch because me, Joe and Nik did our thing on the twisties for a good few miles and then waited for everyone else at a turn, worked a lot better as everyone kept together and could ride the way they liked to ride.

Dangerous overtakes and trying to cut your way back through the pack are the problems. Like Fozz, im cautious about blasting my way back up the pack as it could easily unsettle another rider or cause them to attempt a dangerous manoeuvre that they otherwise wouldnt try.

I very rarely follow anyone in an overtake unless i can see its totally clear to do so. I'd rather hold back, let them get past, then catch them up.

Nik was keeping up really well, only losing us on some of the faster sections, but the 'caterpillar' system works well, so Fozz would have been fine so long as his tyre held out! (we've seen a tyre plug blow at xxx mph havent we phil ;) )

Next time if we have such a great turn out, we could have two groups from the start.

Exactly this.

Faster riders tend not to mix with a group of mixed pace because they just end up spending most of the ride frustrated. You don't want to unsettle anyone so just end up sitting with the pack for a lot of it and that's not the ride you want, neither does any of the riders want someone up their arse waiting to overtake all the time.

Indeed, next time we will do 2 groups, or at least like we did yesterday if I don't have another ride leader, better all round.

New Dunlop Sportsmart 2s this week hopefully!

Front tyre is nackered anyway and felt square as a lego block, so may as well do both. With some warmer weather I'm going to head to Rykas cafe and do some of the roads heading down towards Brighton and back up towards Sevenoaks. There's a good loop of road down there. Will give you chaps a heads up after I've dummy run it and got my bike "summer ready". It needs the tyres doing, and some better brake pads, and possibly a power commander to smooth out the snatchy fuelling. But after that, if I can find a good mix of twisty A-roads, and good B-roads theres a good mix for 600s and 1000s to play to their best strengths.

And variety is the spice of life :)

Think I've got a route of twisties for exactly the one you just mentioned lol.

I have to say, i enjoyed the second half a lot more, less pressure to try keep up with some of the faster riders :D Definately if there is enough people next time we should try do 2 groups.

To be honest, I spent the day in utter bewilderment at how small everyone looked so didn't notice the speed too much. ;-)

It was great to have a little ride out with you lot and I prefer to keep the silly speeds to the track anyway.

Was hard to take pics as it was a bigger camera, a windy day and I didn't want to damage it as the lens extends but did alright despite that  mostly piccs of us all chatting or in 30-40mph zones

We are actually parked on a slope, so combine the fact he's already tall with being on that side just makes him look like he's godzilla sized

At least we have a picture to show people who mess with forum members...

Scrote - "We can beat you up"

Us - "We'll set *this* guy on you"

If you're ever late to a meetup Fro, just say the following

"A wizard is never late.. nor is he early, he arrives precisely when he means to"
