About time to replace the pads on the bike (MOT due next month) - got Tokico calipers so I'm assuming the pads are the same make. Will brembo pads fit these calipers? and is there actually any point spending more on better pads? (bike kawasaki z750s 05)

Do you rate EBC discs, Fro? Need a new rear if I do end up keeping the crapchariot and the only place I can find selling the right disc wants double the money for the OEM Brembo disc

I have used EBC HH pads and they are good

Spoked

then I'm confused by this:

the only place I can find selling the right disc wants double the money for the OEM Brembo disc

because motorworks sell the EBC for £82.43 and the Brembo for £88.42

there is a third type offered.. no brand name mentioned for £178.80

Called them a while back to inquire about the "brand x" disc and the Brembo disc - I was a little confused by the unnamed one, surely can't be the OEM as the bike comes with Brembo as standard. The guy I spoke to on the phone told me that the £179 is in fact the OEM Brembo one for my bike and the £88 Brembo is ever so slightly different in such a way as to be incompatible with the 2000 model that I have. Of course it could all be utter bullshit to make me spend the extra £91 (although when they revised it in 2004 with the twin spark model, they did make seemingly unneccessary changes to a whole load of other parts), but when the options are:

1. Fork out £179

2. Assume he's bullshitting and fork out £88 for the other Brembo, but risk finding out he wasn't and have to then fork out another £179

3. Buy the EBC for £82

I'll take option 3, as long as people rate EBC discs pretty well. Hence my asking.

R13 F650GS

brake disc part number -

99 model. 01 Rear brake disc D=240MM 1 34212345314

00 model. 01 Rear brake disc D=240MM 1 34212345314

03 model. 01 Rear brake disc D=240MM 1 34212345314

so.. as far as the fiche is concerned.. the rear brake disc never changed throughout the bikes history.

edit.. i would assume that the pricey one comes with the bmw part number stamped on it - 34212345314. that automatically adds to the price.

could also be that the one is stainless steel and the other is cast iron.. but that wont change the part number.

bloody expensive having part numbers stamped. ask anyone whose bought a genuine bmw drive belt

Nice one, I didn't think of checking the fiche! Normally only resort to them when there are no parts listed as being '00 compatible and I have to check if something designated for an '04 will work.

You're probably bang on the money with the part number thing, wouldn't be the first time I've run into that. The pricing on Motorworks is sometimes a bit all over the place, so that could be a factor too.

they sell pattern parts.. but it astonishes me that they only sell the BMW stamped belt

there is only one maker.. contitech. part of the continental group.

and you can buy the non stamped but identical belt for almost a third.

even if that was full price RRP it would still be almost £90 cheaper.
