igingeee Posted April 30, 2015 Posted April 30, 2015 Hi all,So i've just purchased a gopro and decided to mount it on the right hand side of the helmet, I seem to have used the flat mount instead of the curved one and just wondered if the pictures below show that there would be an issue if using when out on the roads, only reason I ask is because the middle is stuck down perfectly and securely but there's a gap all the way around on the edges apart from the top.The glue is so strong I doubt attempting to remove it will do any good, so all in all will it hold up using the flat mount (don't want to add another mount, one looks enough).http://s30.postimg.org/rzh0ixplt/IMG_2489.jpghttp://s21.postimg.org/ni2dmjwfb/IMG_2490.jpghttp://s22.postimg.org/lzw3yqku9/IMG_2491.jpgThanks Quote
Guest Posted April 30, 2015 Posted April 30, 2015 Looks alright, give it a tug and a wiggle. Also I'd say attach a bit of cord around the mount/camera and attach it to the straps on your helmet. That way if it falls or anything it'll just fall to your chest. That's what I do with mine at least (hasn't come off yet though, touch wood.) Quote
igingeee Posted April 30, 2015 Author Posted April 30, 2015 Gopro website says that allowing it to sit for 24 hours is advised but after an hour of being stuck on it feels secure enough, just a small gap around the outside probably just being to pessimistic about it Quote
RantMachine Posted April 30, 2015 Posted April 30, 2015 Did it actually come with a curved one? If so, I'd advocate pulling that one off and fitting the right one, and if not then I'd say keep it as it is for now but buy the right one soon. It'll be sturdy enough at first but it'll weaken as crap gets into that opening (especially in bad weather), plus the fact that it doesn't sit flush at front and back might mean it stands to gradually rock free when buffeted. And hey, what costs more - a curved mount, or a new GoPro after it falls off and gets run over by the vehicles behind you?Edit:BikerMoo has/had the suction mount for her GoPro, that always seemed pretty damn sturdy and it fit well to the slightly uneven surfaces of her helmet. Unrelated subject.. Love your current bike description, I nearly fell off my chair laughing Quote
igingeee Posted April 30, 2015 Author Posted April 30, 2015 Sorted.http://s4.postimg.org/7ar3rgmi5/IMG_2493.jpghttp://s10.postimg.org/l5f2t8i61/IMG_2494.jpgManaged to just pull the flat one of the helmet (using a knife to wedge inbetween) so can probably guess how well it would of held up.. might be able to make use of it when I'm not ill, so close but so far.Cheers Quote
RantMachine Posted April 30, 2015 Posted April 30, 2015 Good work, well worth the effort I reckon. Now to master the art of getting it pointing the way you want it to... Quote
igingeee Posted April 30, 2015 Author Posted April 30, 2015 Good work, well worth the effort I reckon. Now to master the art of getting it pointing the way you want it to... I have a feeling that I'm going to end up with a curved mount on the top and other side real soon and then end up debating witch one looks like the best angle.Added to the fact that I'm going to have to remove and re screw it after every commute to work, the fun and games begin Quote
Mr Fro Posted April 30, 2015 Posted April 30, 2015 Added to the fact that I'm going to have to remove and re screw it after every commute to work, the fun and games begin That sounds... Tedious. Quote
igingeee Posted April 30, 2015 Author Posted April 30, 2015 That sounds... Tedious. Indeed, although sure as hell beats it getting knocked or scratched because someone at work "didn't notice it".time all tell. Quote
Ali in Austria Posted April 30, 2015 Posted April 30, 2015 You can remove GoPro Mounts cleanly by combining a hair dryer on a moderate heat and a constant shearing force on the mount. It will eventually let go. It is fairly safe as you will burn your fingers before too much heat damages the surface. Get some double sided 3m tape and you can re use the mount. These are handy for mounting the camera:http://www.funsport.de/actioncam/zubeho ... black.html http://www.funsport.de/actioncam/zubeho ... auben.htmlor http://www.funsport.de/actioncam/zubeho ... ungen.html Quote
jamesrb90 Posted May 2, 2015 Posted May 2, 2015 I personally would change it to the curved. They are curved for a reason. All that wind may start getting to the exposed edges around the flat one and eventually mess it up Quote

Paul-Kent Posted May 2, 2015 Posted May 2, 2015 You need a smaller camera... Whats that one??I'd like a cam but the size of the go pros put me off Quote
igingeee Posted May 2, 2015 Author Posted May 2, 2015 You need a smaller camera... I had a brainwave (not many of them) that unlcipping it from the mount on the helmet directly is a whole bunch easier than re-screwing it, I don't mind about the size or how the mount sticks out (for now anyway), + from footage I've seen I prefered the 3+ to the drift (in general, no specific model).Used the camera today and no real extra hastle, apart form having to be aware that the cameras on the helmet when carrying it around and putting it down.I haven't had time to test the angle on the bike due to being ill over the past couple of days, returned from using it for the first time out on the roads (guessed the angle) and upon watching the recordings at home found that I did a great job of recording me controlling and sitting on the bike but got like 1-2 meters of footage of the actual road Adjusted it and hopefully i'll have some actual useable footage tomorrow Quote
Fonsek Posted September 15, 2017 Posted September 15, 2017 I'm looking at suction cups... just an nflightcam seems good enough but it seem it's no longer available anywhere, still looking for it. Any experiences here? Quote
