One of our clients came up from Cambridge for a meeting yesterday in one of my favourite cars: a Volvo P1800, from 1962. I wish I'd taken a photo of it, but this one off t'internet is almost identical. Stunner or what?

Why don't we still make stuff like this instead of all those horrible, boring, Euro-bland boxes? I honestly can't think of a single modern car that I'd actually like to own.

Maybe I'm just getting old...

Ah, the Saint. It wasn't Roger Moore was it. Yes got to admit they are beautiful cars and it is such a pity they don't make em like that any more.

I just looked it up hoping that long bonnet covered some sort of huge V8, only to find out they came with a 1.8 or 2 litre 4 cylinder engine, half that engine bay must be empty :(

Still I know what you mean about modern cars, Im 24 and cant think of any car made after 2000 I would want to own.

It is! It looks very odd compared to modern cars, where you can barely get your fingers in because everything is crammed in so tightly. There's masses of space under the P1800 bonnet!

Great looking cars.. Modern cars are just mass produced boxes on wheels to ferry about the mindless worker bees.

These old cars have soul.

I used to be really into cars, but not anymore. Back in the good old days cars we're built for fun, not to meet euro regulations.

An absolutely stunning car! I will say though that there were MANY worker bee cars that were produced, and the occasional gem. I think what happens now is that rather than producing a car that is a thoroughbred sports car, they tend to put a slightly larger tuned up engine in a regular saloon.

I'm off to sit in my VRS ;)

A neighbour had one in red like that. Stunning and still usable. The official world record highest mileage car is a 1800s with over 3 million miles on the clock and still going.

Many many many years ago as a hitchhiking student a beautiful young woman appeared from in front of the lorry picking up the next guy along to offer me a lift to Manchester as per my card. Thinking it was Xmas I followed her round the lorry to see a P1800. It must have been my birthday too.

Then she spoiled it all. " I'll get in the back and you can sit next to my husband. " :crybaby: :crybaby:

A couple of my previous cars that I bought as projects and restored from the floor pans upwards!

The mk1 RS 2000 Escort replica I sold to buy a brand new 650 Burgman exec in 2011
