Boris the Blade Posted June 25, 2015 Posted June 25, 2015 So i had my mod 2 test booked for the 16th June. A couple days before i was told the instructors bike i had been learning on was broken and i couldnt do my test. Too late to cancel my test so im down £75 unless my instructor covers it.Now have another booked for th 6th June. Just been told the bike still isnt fixed and they have given up on it and will need to wait for a new bike, but they probably wont have one for the 6th of june.Since summer is quickly running out, I really dont want to wait any longer than i already have, so was thinking about just buying a bike, and doing it on that.Has anyone done this themselves and have any information on what needs to be done? Im guessing i have to just ring insurance and tell them that I will be using it for the test only, and then go from there? If i pass get full licence cover or if i fail cancel until next test date?Appreciate any help! Quote
fullscreenaging Posted June 25, 2015 Posted June 25, 2015 The school should pay for your next booking as it was not your fault. I hope you didn't fork out for your next one. I'm not sure about the rest of your question. Quote
NearOn Posted June 25, 2015 Posted June 25, 2015 This is a bit odd. So they are a biking school with just one bike? Surely they have others in A2 category. If they don't then also how can a biking school not get a bike fixed within 24hrs, they must deal with a mechanic a lot of the time to maintain their bikes. All smells bit fishy to me. They should be covering any costs incurred by you because of their incompetence. Quote
Tango Posted June 25, 2015 Posted June 25, 2015 You can take it on your own bike........but you'd need someone to ride it there for you.......and possibly back after..... Agree with NearOn....sounds decidedly sus...... Quote

Its only a small place, they have a GS500 which i was learning on and its understandable it would break given the condition it was in. They have an XJ6, but for some reason havent restricted it yet. They work next to a Yamaha shop and i know they get along. They said theyve spent £800 fixing the bike and its still not working so have given up on it basically. He did say they would cover my test fees for the one i missed but as i said above he hasnt replied about it now. I see how this can seem a bit dodgy, but i dont think it is. Ive had 3 2 hour lessons with them and a lesson on mod 1 and they seem like alright guys, just inconvinient that the bike broke and they dont have a spare. If i can get insured just for the test i think im just going to look for a bike and try and get one in a few days, it would be nice to take an hour lesson before the test to loosen up so i have messaged a couple other companies to see if they would do a 2 hour lesson then let me use the bike but im waiting to hear back from them. bede Posted June 29, 2015 Posted June 29, 2015 I'm currently using my own bike for lessons. I insured it through bike sure and have a 60 day window in which to pass my test. I am insured for lessons so long as I'm in radio contact with an instructor. Quote
